Kurt H.
In this thread Phantom suggested Ideas for new Group builds. I would like to put out the idea of a Big Kit, not 1/32nd group build. This is targeting large models 1/48th and under Multi-engine types, Kits like the Big monogram bombers, 1/72 Heller 707 family, Trumpter bear, AMT's Big kits of the 90s, large Anigrand kits, and that big vac hiding in the depths of your stash. Almost everyone has one of these kits but they rarely get built. I would like to keep the build mostly OOB with minimal scratch building (antennas, etc) and aftermarket decals only. Whiffers ok. Let us discuss the scope of this GB, I am open to suggestions. I suggest starting next year at the earliest so particpants can wrap up anything else in progress to allow enough undivided attention to finish in 6 months. Edited October 2, 2014 by Kurt H. dnl42
I'm in if there's no limit on mods. My first choice is a 1/48 Revell Ju-52/3m civil airliner with Techmod markings for a pre-war LOT Polish Airlines SP-AKX. This would be beyond OOB since LOT used 3-blade props and different engines than the normal Junkers production. LOT also used some C-47s (not C--48s) as post-war airliners. For that I have a 1/48 Trumpeter C-47; it would need a speculative interior that isn't in the kit...
caudleryan
I've...got...plenty! I'd be in with either one of these: AMT 1/72 B-52H AMT-NKC-135A AMT KC-135 AMT RC-135V Revell of Germany 1/72 C-160 Monogram 1/48 B-29 Monogram 1/72 B-36 Monogram 1/48 B-24 I would most likely build the Monogram B-29, since I have been wanting to try a few new techniques I just picked up. vince14
I've got a 1/72 CMR Short Empire Flying Boat that I'd enter. It'd have to start in 2015 though - I've got too much on this year. Vince
Don
Would 1/144 and 1/200 airliners and civilian cargo aircraft be allowed?
Moggy
Mmmm... just the thing for my Il-76 in 1/72! A-monster strikes again... I'd rather have this GB during 2015 - my dance card is already full for this season :woot.gif:/> Edited July 23, 2014 by Moggy
2qwik4u
Would 1/12 F1 cars and 1/6 motorcycles be allowed?
RodRedline
Would 1/144 and 1/200 airliners and civilian cargo aircraft be allowed? I'll second that question. I have a bunch of big jets & props, but they're all 1/144.
falcon20driver
I'd be in for sure but I'm already working on my 1/48 C-47, doh! Edited July 23, 2014 by falcon20driver

Kurt H.
Would 1/144 and 1/200 airliners and civilian cargo aircraft be allowed? I am thinking this would be good if it was a fairly large kit, like a wide body airliner, 747 ... A340 ... DC-10 or a big air-lifter like a C-141, c-17 or a C-5 . The idea is to build a big kit that you might not have room to display. Edited July 23, 2014 by Kurt H.
Kurt H.
I'd certainly support their inclusion. Vince I am inclined to include cars as well, All big kits need love. I am also a car modeler and I have also managed to stockpile many of the Tamiya 1/12 F-1 kits, and some of the other Tamiya 1/12 cars, like the Porsche 935, and the two different Datsun 240s. I did build the 935 back in 2006, it was quite rewarding. If anyone wants to have a go at one of the monogram 1/8th scale cars, that would be cool...

DC-10 or a big air-lifter like a C-141, c-17 or a C-5 . The idea is to build a big unwieldy kit that you might not have room to display. Many 1/144 airliners and civilian/military cargo aircraft are bigger then most 1/72 WWII 4 engined bombers, and some (A380) are much bigger. Even a 1/200 747-400 is a nice sized model. I think they would fit the bill nicely . Cheers!
Neo
Why exclude 1/32 air and allow 1/12 car kits? Id see a 1/32 b-25 has a contendor! From what i understand of the ot the gb sound like big kit small scale.
Kurt H.
Good point Neo. Maybe a seperate big car build / big bike build would be more appropriate. Who wants to lead that one?
phantom
Thanks for stepping up with an idea and wanting to moderate. I voted yes and WOULD build a 1/48 CC-130J. Its going to be a heck of a conversion to modify the short body herc kit into a modern stretched Canadain super herc.

Well, none of them are quite that big (largest is a 1/144 C-32) so I wouldn't be in. Very cool idea, though. Edited July 24, 2014 by RodRedline
Don
I am in with a 1/144 A380 and possibly a 747.
Joel_W
I'm most likely in if it's an early 2015 start. Way too much on my plate as is, and I'm a slow but steady builder. I've got the Accurate Miniature's 1/48 B-25 C/D which keeps on getting pushed to the back of the stash closet as other newer builds keep on cutting in front of her on the build list. gonzalo
Would a 1/24 Mustang qualify? I actually like the idea of big kit small scale. Maybe it can be 1/48 and smaller of big airplanes like mentioned above. I like the idea of building bombers and cargo planes that take up way to much space but are relatively small scales. I would like to build a 1/72 B-1 for instance, small scale but no slouch in size, let alone a 1/48 B-1.
Kurt H.
Ok so we can refine it a bit "Large kit Small Scale" Kit shall be 1/48th or smaller scale aircraft Aircraft depicted shall be an Airlifter, Bomber, or Airliner duplicates are allowed ( for example multiple people may build the same kit) Kit shall be considered "large" (this is where it gets a bit harder to quantify, I do not want to get into measuring wingspan and getting too techincal. A 1/144th 707 is still a small or regular sized kit in my view, but a 1/144th 747 or DC-10 would be about the smallest "large" kit. The finished kit needs to be large enough that it is awkward to find a place to display it. Examples I have in mind are : Monogram bombers - B-17, B-29, B-58, B-52, B-36 , B-1 Revell 1/48th B-17 and B-1 Monogram C-47 / DC-3 series Monogram 1/48th Catalina Revell 1/144th C-17 Revell/Entex/Otaki 1/144 C-5 AMT 1990s big kits ... KC-135 , B-52, XB-70, Flying wings Heller 707 family Doyusha/Nitto/Entex 1/100 airliners Heller 1/72 Constellation family RoG 1/72 A400M Anigrand Large kits .. 1/72 747, C-133, c-141, etc Testors/Italeri 1/72 and 1/48 C-130 Airfix Nimrod Airfix 1/48th Canberras Airfix Vulcan Hasegawa B-47 Combat models 1/48th and 1/72 monsters Nova Models C-141, KC-135 Edited July 25, 2014 by Kurt H. TomcatFanatic123
If we go early 2015 on the start, I'd be inclined to toss my hat in the ring. I've got a 1:72 Italeri KC-135R as well as their 1:48 C-130J lying around over at my Grandma's house (because I ran out of storage room at my place...LOL). I'm sure she'd be glad to get at least one of them out of her guest bedroom closet :D

I ran out of closet shelves in my house for big kits .. The A400M is the last one I bought, and it kind of sits on the floor propped up in front of the closet in my model shop for lack of any place to put it. But I had to get it, I wanted to vote with my wallet to encourage Revell to keep tooling up BIG airlifters! Edited July 25, 2014 by Kurt H.
