IrishGreek
Okay, I am late too. Been working on it for a couple weeks, but figured I would ask. I have got the hull together and actually trying to run some fiber optics to 'light' the hanger. If okay would love to join. Will post a couple pics later. IrishGreek
Thanks. Always nice to have a driving force behind the build!
Don
Hey "The Lady Lex"! Nice choice . One of my favorite WWII carriers (CV-10 "Yorktown" being among them as well). I look forward to following along. Happy modeling! Regards, Don.
john53
COOL! Good choice, will be watching, I am currently on and off working on the Trumpeter 1/700 Lexington CV-2.---John
rightwinger26
HAVE FUN WITH THE AIRWING!!!!
IrishGreek
Winger, You are not kidding... Lots of tiny pieces anyways in this whole kit. Over 700 parts! Plus will be adding extra planes too. I think each plane has 5 pieces, and they are clear.
IrishGreek
Have not gotten that much done on the ship itself, a little more of the hangar lighting setup and some AA guns. But I did get the initial coat on the airwing: I am using a mix of the Dragon planes and some Trumpeter ones (they were all clear, hence the green). She will be carrying F6Fs, Helldivers and Avengers.
Rich in name only
Are you painting the canopies? Masking that small is a challenge--curious which choice you made. Rich
IrishGreek
Masked the canopies with Liquid Frisket. So should be able to just pull it off. Used a toothpick tip to apply. Hopefully it works. After that dries (enamels), I am going to do the under white color (for the airwing flashes). Also for the white bottoms.
Don
Good stuff . Such tedious work with aircraft in this scale. Looking forward to more. Regards, Don.
rightwinger26
I hope you are drinking plenty of Guiness and Ouzo while you build those so you don't drive your head into the wall.
IrishGreek
A 'small' update. Working on the deck edge elevator. 1 piece of plastic, about 11-12 PE... It is not done yet, had to take a break.
Don
Nice PE work ! Regards, Don.
IrishGreek
Have finally gotten a little more done. Finished the PE on the Elevator (and it was really challenging for me!) and then painted it and the flight deck with a tan color, before I do the tie down strips and deck color. So here are a couple update photos.
Don
PE elevator is looking great and the deck is coming along nicely ! Happy modeling! Regards, Don.
IrishGreek
Well, got my deck painted. Here is how I did it. 1st, I painted the flight deck tan. 2nd, then I used a straight edge (could have gone better but the fiber in the hanger made the deck uneven/wobbly) to add the tie down lines with Fine Sharpie. 3rd, painted the 20-b deck stain color. Sebastijan
Looks nicely worn. Good job!
rightwinger26
Outstanding work on such small PE!
Rich in name only
Why tan as a base color? Haven't seen that before.
IrishGreek
Saw it on a 'ship' site. Gives it the 'worn' look of the wood showing thru the deck stain wearing off from use. Apparently, in the S. Pac theatre, the deck stain wore out (down?) quite a bit and this sort of replicates it.
Rich in name only
Thanks! Interesting. Another wear pattern is from the 50s where the overcoat of the flight deck wore down to show the planking. It's like looking at jets on a ship that is sailing during WWII.
