Gray
Medal of Honor winner Greg Boyington posing in front of his Corsair "Lucybelle" for a PR shoot. Drawn in vector with some digital painting.
Exhausted
I think that is SO cool. I love the yellowing effect you made. Is there a chance we can see an unyellowed version? Also, Pappy's face seems angled a bit strangely, specifically on the left side. Once again, nice job seeing this through from just a sketch!
Check Six
That is freakin' awesome ! Quite fitting for an equally awesome subject .
GreyGhost
Really nice job, Gray! :thumbsup2:/> I got to meet Pappy back in 1986 at a small airshow in my hometown in California ... He was a bit funny and cantankerous ... -Gregg Sorry about the iphone typo. Edited August 4, 2015 by GreyGhost
Gray
Thanks for taking a look exhausted. I'll have another look at the head tilt. Just the red yellow tones for this one. Check Six, thanks for the kind words. GreyGhost, appreciate the comments. I think Boyington dealt with a lot of demons in life, the main one being alcohol.

Back when I worked for McDonnell Douglas I got to be friends with the resident artist. He used an overhead projector to do his early rough sketches before applying the airbrush. Man; How technology has come along since the early '90s!
Gray
Everything changes very quickly now. The changes that have taken place in technology over the last 20years are mind boggling. Too quick for old guys like me to keep up with.
crackerjazz
Hi Gray, this is really beautiful work! I think you're every bit up to speed with technology. Pardon my ignorance but for vector drawings and digital paintings - can one actually vary the orientation easily and change the view to another angle?
Gray
Thanks, crackerjazz. Drawing in vector or digital painting is the same as traditional. Once you've set the composition it's chipped in stone, unless you start from the scratch again. It is easier to correct mistakes, though.
Flying Tiger
Wow...this is great...love it! I used to do quite a few vector renderings before taking up other programs with wacom tablet...now I don't think I have the patient to do this again....:( Cheers Flying Tiger
