CraigSargent
Going to start this one off, because I've recently been seeing lots more interesting things happening with the Harriers in the Marines' service. Colour is appearing on a lot of tails, and for the first time in a while there has been clearance for a new weapon (the GBU-38 JDAM). COLOUR BIRDS Most of the colour birds are on Airliners.net and here are the links: Anyway, to kick things off, here is a link to the VMA-542 CO jet with some pretty cool artwork on the tail I haven't seen before http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1179831/L/ VMA-513 CO with the blue tail (available in 1/48 from TwoBobs and Superscale) http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1281847/L/ VMA-231 CO with cool flames on the drop tanks (different tail markings than the Hasegawa 1/48 kit provides) http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1148392/L/ VMA-311 CO with the black tail (available in 1/48 from TwoBobs and Superscale) http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1183607/L/ VMA-211 CO with full colour "stars n bars" (available in 1/48 from Superscale) http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0805084/L/ Variation on the VMA-211 jet with reversed rudder colours and different unit badge on nose http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0658472/L/
otis252
Thanks for posting. Nice to see the USMC jets get some show. Chuck
kap64
I'm trying to get up with someone from VMAT-203 to get some photos. We just painted the tail of their 02 bird gloss black with the red hawk's head and fancy red with yellow shadowed buno and "Marines" also on the tail. If cameras were allowed at work, I could have got some really good in process photos of it. Edited November 1, 2007 by kap64
CraigSargent
Is 203's 02 bird a single or two holer? Lots adn lots of photos either way please?! Also, any chance your contact at 203 can get some good cockpit shots? The information on the 2 seat Harrier's interior is VERY VERY scarce!
kap64
It's a single, but they have both in their squadron. So far, I've had no luck, but I will try again when I go to work tomorrow. It's a shame it's so difficult and they are so close to my building, only a couple of buildings down from mine. The hawk's head is the same as in your avatar without the circle and squadron number on it.
CraigSargent
Something tells me TwoBobs need to do some more Harrier sheets!
kap64
I was told this one might become a show bird, but that's not in writing. They supposedly needed this one back to fly it out to a show somewhere. Edited November 1, 2007 by kap64

CraigSargent
Interesting markings on the NA (modex 50). Appears to have black and white national insignia.

jai5w4
FASM = Forward Air Support Munition?Nice pics FASM = F**king A Single Mom. Buddy of mine is Dale Snodgrass's nephew and was givin FASM for a short time under the pretense of "Future Aviator Star of the Millenium." Needless to say he eventually figured out what Snort really meant by FASM and wisely chose NOT to tell his girl. ;) -John
Josh1971
Harrier question here- did the USMC ever consider using those launchers that the UK had, which added a fourth wing station? (seemed like they were specifically for AAMs) JB
BAM'n'IVM
Posted this in the All Harriers thread, but here's a Super Harrier at Thunder Over Texas last year:
Ishthe47guy
Some Harrier photos I took a few weeks ago. As to not to take up too much of the boards bandwith, the rest can be seen here: AV-8B Ish, realizing that an AV-8B needs to be part of the stash...

marine4 ever
:D a two seat variant? NICE!
Aggressor Supporter
Don't see the two seat one every day. Very neat. I wonder if they're still around in any significant numbers?
NightDog
Don't see the two seat one every day. Very neat. I wonder if they're still around in any significant numbers? Not many out there. Only around 12 total, all with VMAT-203 at Cherry Point, NC. Brits have a few as well, not sure but I don't think the Spanish or Italians have any as thier pilots are trained at VMAT-203. Scott D
Italy has 2 TAV-8Bs. I also believe VX-9 at China Lake has one or two, I've seen them pop into Pt. Mugu on occasion. Scott D Thousand Oaks, CA

Quite like this scheme AND it's an NA bird too, which you don't see wearing colours often. Note that it's 20 too, not 02. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1302799/L/
