drhornii
It has been a while since I have built the Has 1/48 F-16 but I just noticed that there are no AOA probes or a place to locate them on the radome. What other items are going to be missing in this kit (F-16D)? **edit**just compared my Tamiya radome to the Has one and the Tam will fot on the Has fuselage. Looks like I need to make a resin copy...... Photo from my Has 1/32 build a few years ago with the AOA sensors on the nose. David Walker
You're right of course about the radome. I ended up getting the Fine Molds brass pitot and AOA set to improve that area of the kit. And of course the wheel wells are extremely sparse. I chose not to go with one of the aftermarket wheel wells sets and just leave it be, but that's certainly an area where you could add a lot of missing details.
drhornii
With the release of Tamiya's F-16, that just make Has kit show its age. The moulds must be 25 years old with minor updates. The lower fuselage panel lines are very sparse for a current Viper. With 1/32 Has F-16, that same area, especially the JFS is all wrong. They even have a mix of raised & recessed lined. Don't let me get on a I should be building a model! here but geez.....
drhornii
Got the fix as I stated earlier, a cast radome made from the Tamiya kit. Believe it or not, it actually fits! Now If I ever build another Has F-16, I am covered. BTW, looking at the shape, the Tamiya is more pointed, not sure which one is more correct shape. doctorpepper
the tamiya one looks more correct to me - it's easier to stick a needle on, and call it a pitot tube. the hasegawa one.. would need some blending
ThePhantomTwo
Am I correct that I'm seeing engraved panel lines around the AOA probes on the Tamiya kit radome? If so,they shouldn't be there, what you see is only the outline of the AOA covers that manages to keep that area cleaner than the rest of the radome. jmel
Am I correct that I'm seeing engraved panel lines around the AOA probes on the Tamiya kit radome? Yep, they botched it in the 32nd kits, too. Jake

Good eye! Looks like the Hasegawa can be modified by drilling for the AOA probe to go into & mounting holes then painting the area where the cover was.
