I think it is supposed to be a low cost alternative to a more expensive gunship platform.

I am not sure of which countries use them, if any, but here's a cool what if scheme that I just finished and took pictures of yesterday. The two main exterior colors are Gunze's Gunship Grey and Blue Grey. Being $15, I decided to pick it up...

Edit: The gun pods are .50

The gun pods seem to be .50cals. I have seen them with two gun pods but each of the gun pods had 2 20mm' s in it.

Is that a new model that just came out or has it been out for awhile. The sherriff's dept. across the river in Cincinnati flies the MD-530(minus the guns and the mast mounted sight of course) I think. They also fly a MD530? with NOTAR.Sounds cool when it flies over the house with that NOTAR whine.

Don't know if they recently reissued it. but the 530G kit was originally released quite a while ago.

The Dragon MD-530G kit has been out since the mid-'90s. It was released at about the same time as their other Hughes 500/Loach variants.

The 530G is a cheap alternative to a larger gunship and gives about the same firepower. It was billed mostly to smaller nations to fulfil their gunship needs. It is used by many South and Central American and Middle Eastern countries. I can't find any examples with the MMS though.

The kit gives you the option of using the MMS or not, most pictures I've seen are from the Phillippines,
without it.

They also made a different version of the MMS, which looks easy enough to scratch out.

I've got several of the kits and I look forward to building them with an assortment of weapons. Examples:

I guess if you wanted to, you could build it with just about any type of weapon system carried by similar aircraft, including rockets and Hellfire.

Thanks TONS for the great references and Phillipino direction, empeter. I've found squat with all my google and airliners searches. 377.gif Right click, save....... repeat.

And I take it that pretty much everyone is in agreement that the pods are .50 cal?

Andy

(edit... actually, that rectangular MMS looks like the one included in Dragon's IDF boxing)

Yes, they are .50 cals.

If you need the square MMS, I have the one that comes with Dragon's IDF boxing if you need them, I'll never use it.

Take care,
Austin

For a second I thought it was this one.: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0026141/L/

I remembered it from an old book and could read the N reg. I assume that made it an experimental demo. It gets confusing on stuff like that, because the companies often reuse the N numbers on multiple test ships over time.

Anyway... Interesting sight on this one, but it was just a 500.
