Any chance you will be doing a VF-1 Wolfpack sheet ? Friend of mine flew in that squadron during their second cruise and I would love to build him that model.

I've always wanted to do the Red/White VF-1 scheme but have hesitated because of the lack of decent decals.

I'd love to see that... in 1/72 though.

Early-style beavertails and gunvents are much easier to get in 1/72 than 1/48 at the moment... smile.gif

I'd defanitely buy a set if available in 1/72. Those first cruise markings are killer.

If not to mention 1:32... coolio.gif I think the release of 1:32 markings would have to coincide or even include resin parts for these. Did VF-1 carry the red stripe and cream radome with the later style beaver tail (I believe the CAM decals make no mention of the early beavertail)?

With darren doing replacement parts it shouldn't be too bad. Although, you'd pretty much be restricted to using a hasegawa kit unless you wanted to do some major surgery to a different kit. I'm talking to a guy now that flew with VF-1 on their vietnam cruise (and actually had the honor of delivering the first jet to VF-124 from Calverton).

Yes, there are several "early high-vis full markings" VF-1 F-14's with STANDARD beavertails. You still need early gun vents, but you need not get a block 70 aft fuselage to do one of the very famous first deployment schemes. CAM's decal actually is for one of those planes.

That is definitely one of my favorite paintschemes too! It's almost as kind as the 77's VF-84 for me smile.gif I don't even know how the hell it happened, that we did not make it as a print yet! Just gave a good idea, I'll need to kick in some research wink.gif

Good luck for these decals, I'm sure it will be popular!

Greetings, neu hi2.gif

Definitely my second favorite paint scheme after VF-103 farewell birds. Both beginning and end of an era indeed biggrin.gif
Wolfpack always managed to feature their emblem nicely; I especially like the "leader of the pack" caption under CAG's name on the canopy rails. cool.gif

I am in for a nice very early NK100 Skip Furlong' or Smoke Wilson's bird, an early line bird with early beavertail w/o dielectric panels (NK114 BuNo 159000 would be cool) and one livery of end of 1980's.

2008 is Wichita year at Fightertown... but also please Sluggers too...

Hello Brian

I (surprisingly) join those calling for 32nd scale hi vis VF-1.

Correct me, guys, if I am wrong, I think the original Tamyia release has the early F-14 features.

Anyway, looking forward to any new releases. At least to please my eyes when looking at it if they are in this weird scale (wait, is it 48th or so ?) biggrin.gif

Jozef,

The original Tamiya kit does have the early wheels, but not the early gun gas vents (the six groups of grilles). The beavertail is the standard one. I am not aware of any early beavertail conversions for this kit.

there are no early beavertail conversions in 1/32 (yet wink.gif ), but then there haven't been many decals for the earliest jets either.

Damn! BANGHEAD2.jpg Too bad I didn't notice this thread earlier. I just made a post in the General Discussion forum asking for any VF-1 Wolfpack decals or other "wolf themed" decals.
Anyway.........I would love to get my hands on some 1/48th Wolfpack decals for a special project I'm doing. I'll take either the early red colored decals or some low-vis decals, or both! I can hardly wait! Please have them ready soon!

I think WolfPack Tomcat is one of the coolest cat every. I'm a big Jolly Rogers and Test birds fan, but high viz VF-1 Tomcat is, hands down, the most awesome looking Cat!! rolleyes.gif and yes, a request for 1/32 please!!

Looks like EagleStrike already has these out in 1/48, I'm sure for those who want to see these markings in 1/72, they won't be far behind.

Yep, saw those. I thought their color choice for red was off and some of the details weren't up to the standards of what I'd want in a VF-1 sheet. I was bummed to see that they did the NK in black. I think that everyone waiting for a Fightertown Decals VF-1 sheet will be very, very pleased. It just might not be here as fast as we'd all like.
