Kurosawa Design JAS

JAS (formerly TOA then TDA (Toa Domestic Airlines) colours were then the same as AIRBUS Industrie's, as you may have noticed on the A-300 or DC-10. When JAS purchased their MD-90 airplanes, it was the time for "who was doing the best paint job". ANA started with their Whale and many followed (Pokemon, etc...).

Akira Kurosawa, the movie director created this Rainbow Design with a different scheme for each of the 7 airplanes. You can see his signature below N°2 Hinomaru.

Some years ago, JAS was taken over by JAL and these airplanes have lost their livery when going through maintenance.

Here is a scale effect close to a 747-400 :

Or next to a 1/72th YF-18 (Hasegawa - Painted blue and gold, so the colours would not fade) :

Those MD-90s look very nice indeed!

You did a great job with the kit decals. I still have a half finished JAS MD-90 after giving up on the decals... On my copy they just won't curve round the fuselage no matter what I do...
