IIRC the thread about the AFV F-5E agreed among alot that it was going to be the Academy kit reboxed under AFV's nameplate with some extras added (like the ROCAf F-16 BLK-20 they did awhile back). So w/o the Academy kit...

So w/o the Academy kit... Trust me, the AFV kit is NOT the Academy kit. Once again it was just speculation that that they were the same kit. Granted, I'm speculating a lot on the artwork for the box. But if they wanted me to think more of it, they should have shown me something more impressive. At least Academy showed Taiwanese and Korean F-5s which lead me to believe it was more of an operational front line aircraft with those options than just a training tool airframe. |

Well, Kinetic is developing a F-5, and for whatever shape issues it has, the CAD drawing makes me curious, can't wait to see that.
Why are discussing F-5s in a thread about Sufas?

Getting this back on track, so I'm liking the ROCAF F-16, but will we see third party export to the US? Maybe through online distributors? And will LuckyModel be carrying them?

So to throw a bit of a hijack into the thread....is Academy hearing the rumblings of a Hasegawa Tiger? That was a rumor a while back before the Drakken hitr the market. No, Hasegawa would be a lot smarter and would release what would sell better, a F-5A and F-5B. |

F-5s can sell. like i mentioned on raymond's thread, what kit to release next? on jet modelling also. i voted for the f-5 and f-104. many countries operate the f-5A and B. from latin america to asia and africa and north to europe. the many versions and decals available could milk for some time. and then there is also the tiger II, the tigereye recon version.. a whole family to spawn from a baseline is good.
anyway its getting quite off topic. and i've added a link for my in progress thread on the 1st post of this thread.WIP build thread This post has been edited by Tomcat RIO: Apr 7 2009, 05:21 AM |

Why are discussing F-5s in a thread about Sufas? ![]() You want this to get back to 'Nosegate'? This has been very calm for a Kinetic thread....besides Kinetic is looking at Tigers. So by playing Seven Degrees of Separation the discussion of a AFV F-5 is what maybe three degrees of separation? Kinetic Sufa.... Kinetic F-5..... Academy F-5.... AFV F-5.... Well maybe four degrees of separation.... Matt (love the pic!) |

Is it safe to assume the Kinteic weapons included with the Sufa have the same heavy handed rivet detail and grainy surface? I'm looking to get a kit with a bunch of spare weapons, and am debating getting the Academy F-15K or the Kinetic Sufa. I want a Sufa, but I'm not as happy with the Kinetic kit after reading through this thread. I can get an Academy SLAM Eagle for about twice the cost of a Hasegawa weapons set (and throw away the plane), but it seems there isn't a great Sufa yet...

Your best bet would be the Academy kit.
Yes the Kinetic weapons have the heavy scribbed lines as the kit does. Curt |

If I were to build a D model in 48th scale, personally, I wouldn't consider either of these kits. I would much rather start with the Tamiya, and cut the fuselage to fit the Hasegawa D model canopy. Pavel Smetana did this and it was beautiful. I guarantee it will be less work than fixing the Kinetic shape issues or detailing the Hasegawa. The conversion is not that difficult, well within the capabilities of just about everyone here, and will result in a gorgeous model.
Just another option for those of you who may be so inclined- Regards, Pig |

Hey Guys,
Pig, I now believe you are right! Saw a couple pics on Z5 with the cuts done, but before I lay the saw to the Tamiya kit, is there any cut lines that should be followed. Got the Hasagawa Sufa stuff for it and it looks like it will work without to much trouble. Gonna fit the Aires cockpit, but need some canopy cut lines, don't trust myself. Chuck |
