THUDMAN
Evening Folks, Has anyone here ever seen aftermarket ECM pods for Netherlands Army AH-64s. The pods are installed at the ends of the stub wings. Saw and photgraphed them at RIAT 2005, have been hoping since then for an AM application. By the way the Dutch Apache air demo/display is fantastic! Any help re. the above is very appreciated. joachim
I can't help you with that, but i have some nice pics of Dutch Apache in Uruzgan; even with handsome man
RNLAF
Well sir, I can't help you with supplying them for you but I can give you some info about them. Their not called ECM pods but AMASE pod's. AMASE is short for Apache Modular Aircraft Survivability Equipment. The AMASE is an advanced Electronic Warfare self-protection system against heat seeking missile threats. Some pics: Here are some links with good info about the pods: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=149062 http://aviationweek.typepad.com/ares/2007/...ed_by_dirc.html http://frontierindia.net/album/main.php/?g2_itemId=167 (don't forget to click 'next' on the pictures, you'll get some good pics of the sensors. You can do so by either clicking 'next' or by clinking on the blue .jpg texts under 'AH-64D' on the left side) - Rick BTW: Thank you for the compliment about our Apache display team! THUDMAN
Hey, Rick... Thanks very much for your reply and the photos, they are greatly appreciated. Would like to see them in resin for the Hasegawa kit eventually. The demo teams IS the tops! The Netherlands owns demos, the F-16 demo team is fantastic as well. Apologies for the slow response, been out of touch for a few days. Once again, thank you, take care... Tim Crudden PHANTIM50@AOL.COM
RNLAF
No problem Tim... I would also like to see the AMASE pod's in resin. Unfortunaly companys who produce resin products aren't that interested in Dutch equipment May I ask from which country you are because your so interested in our display team... - Rick Edited May 31, 2009 by RNLAF
Floyd S. Werner, Jr.
They look like different pods to me. One has flare/chaff dispensers and the other may have a detector of some sorts. Is there a difference or is one an evolution from the other. Floyd

11bee
The second style is to incorporate the Nemesis DIRCM as seen on MH-53J and AW Merlin HC.3 helicopters. I believe that the DIRCM portion of the pod is being retrofitted to most US choppers in the near future. I know the Marines already have this underway for the 46 & 53 fleet and I thought I read somewhere that the Army was doing the same. It sounds like there is a concern about late generation IR SAMs starting to end up in Afghanistan. IR flares and jammers may not be sufficient protection from these SAMs. John
Floyd S. Werner, Jr.
So does the new style only have the flare/chaff dispenser in the front or is there a panel for one on the outside of the antenna. Inquiring minds want to know. Floyd
