I hope Raymond's pic indicates the wing fold will be included. If so that would be awesome!

I'll definitely give it a shot.
One of my friends got the CollectAire kit back when it first came out and it looked about like those nacelle shots that have been posted. Maybe I'm unreasonable, but for that much of my hard-earned money, it better look a heck of a lot better than that! -Mike |

I have always loved the E-2. I recall days of sitting on the crows nest of the USS George Washington and watcging them land and take off. If I can ever afford it I would gladly buy and if the kit isnt the best, I'll make it the best! I remember working on the flight deck of the USS Oriskany watching E-1 "Elmer Fudds" waddleing in for landings.

I remember working on the flight deck of the USS Oriskany watching E-1 "Elmer Fudds" waddleing in for landings. Were they Elmer Fudd's or Willy Fudd's? Did they change with the designation change in '62? I believe the original designation was WF (W-Early warning; F-Grumman). I'm building the Collect Aire 1/48 scale resin kit now. It's actually one of their best kits. It fits almost as well as an injection kit...until you get to the landing gear. YUCK! |

SO:
Open crew steps - wonder if there'll be a full interior, and why? You can't see inside the back anyway. Folding wings, and apparently positionable flaps. SWEET. |

Wow!!! I am stoked about this release. I have always thought the Hawkeye looked cool. I especially like the fact that we are getting it with an option to fold the wings. Quite honestly, if we didn't get this option, I would have to pass on the kit. I just don't have enough shelf space for it otherwise.
I also like the open boarding hatch option. I wonder if they will also give us the choice of an open escape hatch over the radar operator's compartment? That hatch is often left open for takeoff / landings and it would allow you to see into this compartment (nice opportunity for some aftermarket sets)! Raymond - I know this is a longshot but do you think there will ever be a Kinetic C-2 COD released? With the open rear ramp, that would be an awesome model (IMHO). Hey Darren,
I think they were as you said "Willy Fuds". But don't forget my favorite name, the Stoof and of course the Stoof with a Roof! LOL Looking forward to this kit. Chuck |

John Dear John, The question is : Why not for another C-2 ? I think if the E-2 is selling well, why not a C-2 ? The wing parts are the same. The E-2/C-2 is a response to previous thread about "What is the next kit ?" Just a preview, before the E-2 arrival, a 1/48 MD-3 tractor and USN crew will be ready under SkunkModel. Cool ? |

QUOTE Yes, it is a 1/48 E-2C Interesting mash of versions though...things I saw: 1. the Hawkeye2000 SATCOM antenna (for the moment..may be coming to a Group II near you and me soon) on the dome is definitely too short. 2. Wings are folded, but the flaps definitely aren't at 20-degrees (this is a mechanical lock-out..no way around it) 3. It has the extra cooling scoop over the vapor cycle heat exchanger (on the roof) of the E-2D 4. It has the refractometer (blade/tube behind the pilot's head) only found on Group II's and older (it doesn't work worth crap so was deleted) 5. It has the CEC antenna (under-fuselage bulge) of the HE2K and E-2D Still...it's an improvement over what's out there. Spongebob |

That will be tough for your average modeler to fix, but the mold could be modified relatively easily. 2.) I have a feeling that the flaps will be separate parts, so positioning them at 20 degrees shouldn't be that big of a problem. 3.-4) These are all extra details, and could probably either a.) be molded as separate pieces to make later Hawkeye versions or b.) removed easily with a sanding stick. 5.) Is this the big bulge under the middle of the fuselage just behind the steps? If so, having it could be an issue. It could however, be molded as a separate piece. OR, removed with a sanding stick (I hope.) 5b.) If you look at how Hasegawa molded their 1/72 kit, the whole CEC antenna panel is a separate part. I'd bet that Kinetic does the same. I'd honestly rather have too much than too little. I can shave off antennas all day long, but building extra scoops or vents or bumps will be much tougher. I say give me all the bumps, and make me sand off what I don't need. |

Yes, it is a 1/48 E-2C Well I was just about to pick up the Hasegawa kit so I am holding on to my money. This is really exciting news. I already have 3 Fujimi kits, 1 A and 2 C versions so I will be donating them to my 1/72 scale buddies. I had high hopes for Special Hobby but I would gladly accept Kinetic's release. Just to have the Hawkeye in 1/48 would be wonderful. I have already been looking at markings to do the Mexican Navy version since it looks like that is they are only ones with some sort of camo scheme. I agree...also, on the CAD drawing, the cockpit roof looks a little odd - I think it should start much closer to the top of the windows? I'm still looking forward to it!! Sponge |
