Well, after another exciting 10 day trip to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the event in my opinion was an absolute success! The people are wonderful, the aircraft and airshows are exciting, and unfortunately the time just slips away. It's all over way too fast and I have to come back to reality. sad.gif I did stop by the Lancaster a few times, but it's so crowded (good thing!) I was never able to find an ARCers. Oh well. I assumed it may be a bit difficult to find each other at a place like Oshkosh...hope some of you other guys met up! Anyway, the past three years I have been making music videos to show the highlights of Oshkosh (I do this for almost any fly-in/airshow I attend as well). Each year I've used a different camera, and become a little more experience in filming. So without further ado, here is my EAA Airventure 2009 music video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKU0uQki5Dc

Also, if you want to check out the previous videos, here they are in reverse order.

2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZc6bqTX83A

2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnogi5vwrfY

Over the course of 10 days I took about 1400 pictures and shot just under 6 hours of HD video. Later on today, I'll start my Oshkosh day by day picture review in this thread (did this for previous years as well). I will also be adding various aircraft demonstration videos without music and fancy editing. Ex: (Airbus A380, Sean Tucker, Warbirds, etc...)

If anyone else has pictures/videos they would like to post go right ahead!

I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for looking!

SLICK

Alright, I'll start my day by day review of the event.

Friday July, 24, 2009

This year's event was only our forth trip flying the Piper PA-16 Clipper up to Oshkosh, and as is a custom with my father and I, every year we seem to get a little more intense with the trip. This time we woke up at 0200 and were wheels up at 0250 for the 1068 mile trip in the 100 mph aircraft. However, we were blessed with something we never get...A TAIL WIND! Not just your ordinary tail wind either, we were indicating a 120 mph ground speed on the Garmin 396! Phenomenal in the Clipper, which, when it was manufactured in 1949 came with the head wind option installed!

I decided to mess around with the camera a bit after the first 45 minutes of flying. I took these pictures on a bumpy, drizzly morning over Waco, Texas. Not the best pictures, but I wanted something to show!

After about 3.8 hours of flying we arrived at our first destination. Sallisaw, Oklahoma just after sun rise. Nobody was around, so no line at the fuel pump. We spent about 15 minutes on the ground before jumping back into the Clipper to start heading for Mexico...Missouri!

Always seems to be the same planes every year.

Even though we got going very early on this trip, I kept thinking that it was about early afternoon on our flight to Mexico, when in fact we landed at around 1000! We always plan the same fuel stops for our Oshkosh trip, and the welcome site of the Zenith factory preparing for another Oshkosh was a comforting feeling. A great sign!

Continued in the next post...

SLICK

After departing Mexico we headed for our last fuel stop before Oshkosh...and it was barely 1100! We had originally planned on flying into Brodhead, Wisconsin for the annual Pietenpol and Hatz fly-in, but because of some incoming weather and their short runway length and fully loaded Clipper...it wouldn't have been pretty. So that plan was scrapped and we head straight for Monroe, Wisconsin. We landed at about 1230, refueled, went to the restroom, checked weather, and talked to a man who flew in his ultralight all the way from Orange County, California at 55 mph (it was his forth trip to Oshkosh in that plane!).

This was it, we took off for the final hour long leg to Oshkosh! We've made the trip in a day before, but never so quickly! After flying through a bit of rain and turbulence on the final leg we landed and were parked in the vintage camping at just past 1330 on Friday! Just over 9 hours of flight time (we rested a bit at Mexico and Monroe)! There was an empty spot pretty close to the front of Vintage where they couldn't fit a plane with the proper wing tip clearance...so what better than put a Piper Short Wing in that spot. We were lucky!

We got an outstanding spot, and parked next to the only flying Bucker Bu181 Bestmann in the U. S. and a Piper Comanche on the other side. We unloaded all of our gear, set up camp, registered, and met our neighbors before heading out for a walk around the grounds. Our neighbor with the Bucker is an absolutely friendly chap with whom we hung out all week! We also got in touch with friends from past Airventures and all of us, both old friends and new, had a great time! This is most certainly the best part about Airventure!

Now for some pictures I took during our walk around the grounds. Everything is still being set up! To be honest with you, I actually like watching the event come together better than the event itself. I love arriving early to see it set up and watch arrivals!

Until next time!

Utterly fantastic, thanks for posting!!
I'd pay to see the other 5 hours 57 minutes of footage!

The obvious enthusiasm of the aviation community (emphasis on COMMUNITY) over there is something that is sorely missing here downunder sad.gif

Denzil, who MUST book a spot on the QANTAS express next year!
