As the creator of all DMold Modelworks sets and owner of the company I was a bit shocked and concerned to discover that some supplier, unknown so far, sells "DMold Modelworks sets" via E-bay's auction site. I need to caution everybody that these sets (1/32 F-4, 1/32 F-18 and 1/48 F-4 intake sets, at least) are not original products of mine and just pirated copies, casted and completed by someone else.
I will be updating this thread as soon as I get new facts on this question. Meanwhile, you can see details at this thread Regards, Dmitri This post has been edited by Dimitri: Oct 19 2009, 01:37 AM |

Sadly it runs rampant on ebay. I have seen Two Bobs decals sold from someone in Korea which are pirated copies as well. I have also seen a fair share of Black Box cockpits sold on ebay that are not Black Box.
Its terrible. |

I say deal with them the way the SEALS dealt with the other pirates. Absolutely no room for that trash on the planet anymore. Good luck w/ calling them out.

Whats worse is when a company pirates other products, especially ones that are out of production, just as long as they change 20$ they think they are ok...

Very disturbing...
Any progress on identifying the bad guy? If you can confirm that they are definitly pirated you should post the info in the bad traders section of the marketplace forum as well. |

It's one thing to buy the rights to produce a product after it becomes OOP, but passing it off as the original, or even worse, made by themselves - is just crying out to be lynched.
People here have worked very VERY hard to get quality products out as reasonable prices, and people come along, throw it into a cheap rubber mold, and try to pass it off as genuine, or change it to "their brand name".. at one of my LHS, I see no-brand seats, seamless intakes (f-16), exhausts - and it makes me wonder if they were copied off of genuine cottage ind. brands. I've generally only faced positive and greatly commendable customer service from the AM people here (products also worthy of being on display in the best aviation museums); - you'll continue to get my business. Hard to tell by a casual observer if the item is pirated or someone selling a legitimate product they bought then decided to sell later. Jeff This set is OK. But if you don't want to bid on ebay then a new shipment of such sets (but limited by 10 sets only) will be en route to the Victory Model shop in a coule of days. More shipments will follow little later. As to investigation, - it continues and probably will be open here in few days as well. Seller of these pirated sets from ebay is known. His name is Paul Miller, from Mansfield, Texas, USA (buster340 on ebay) and he was selling these sets as "buy it now" through all the summer and before it. All is needed to be found out yet is who was actual supplier of these sets to ebay. Regards, Dmitri This post has been edited by Dimitri: Oct 8 2009, 03:24 AM |

I'm the one who posted the original comparison thread.
I had wanted to purchase seamless intakes for the 1/32 Phantoms for a while. I did try the VictoryModels site back in August but they were out of stock. I didn't know who else has them, so naturally I went to ebay and found it. Unbeknownst to me, the origin of the ebay DMold intakes were suspect. I try my best to support the small shops that have served the hobby community well. I have provided some info to assist Dmitri in his investigation, but otherwise as a consumer I will stay out of the dispute. Terry This post has been edited by loftycomfort: Oct 8 2009, 03:27 AM |

Dmitri,
I have been buying modeling stuff from buster340 for about 2 years now. I probably have purchased at least 10-15 items from him and I've never had a problem with his delivery, service or products. I did, however, buy 2 sets of "your" 1/32 F-18 intakes from him about 2 months ago, so I just compared the packaging to a a set of your F-4 intakes I bought from another source. Sadly, it would appear that my F-18 intakes are likely fakes too, since the packaging does not look as crisp as the F-4 packaging (looks like an ink-jet printer). I have included pics of these intakes below. What do you think? (I think I already know the answer BTW, I've noticed that all products and feedback from buster 340 has been changed to "phantomdriverii" on ebay suddenly. ![]() ![]() ![]() Chuck This post has been edited by chuck540z3: Oct 8 2009, 03:29 PM |

When I do a search for buster340 I get
phantomdriverii is this the same guy, looks like he changed his user ID recently. If they are bootlegs, the original producer can file a VERO complaint with Ebay, and get the auctions yanked. There's a bit of paperwork involved, but once its in place, it is very effective. |

I bought 2 sets of these from the Buster340 on Ebay and they do not have the fillet described. They look exactly like the sets pictured on the DMold website. I can't say whether they are originals or not but they sure look like it. I also purchased a couple of the 1/32 Cutting Edge F-4B conversion sets from him and they also look like originals down to all of the packaging.
He sells a lot of Cutting Edge stuff so I almost thought he might have been DK selling off old inventory. This post has been edited by KevinS: Oct 8 2009, 02:55 PM |
