Ronald1903
Hello all, Finished this one this week. When I was searching colors for this bird I saw some very interesting photo's from the 70's. No plain green bird but heavily striping! This is how things turned out: Thanks for looking. Dave Williams
Must be confirmed by a specialist, but your Danish recce Draken looks like a modernized one with a modified recce and Ferranti Laser Range Finder (RLF) noose, fin top and wingtips RWRs, chaff-flare dispensers etc. So a Danish RF-35 Draken as after the original flat and usually heavily weathered dark green livery was replaced by a gloss version of the green colour . Compare the noose as well as the fin top and wingtips of your model with the aircraft in the image Anachronism? A modernized RF-35 Draken with the old camo? V.P. I believe it was the fighter F-35s that were fitted with a Ferranti Ranger Finder in a new nose that looked similar to the RF nose. The RF nose remained the same, and this is an RF as evidenced by the AR tail number, plus the side camera ports in the nose. The RWR stuff was fitted to both F- and RF-35s. Only RF-35's had serials beginning with AR. The updated F-35(XD) has a similar nose but not the bulge as on the RF. Only the F-35's had the Ferranti Ranger Finder. Paolo Maglio
I'm sorry but I can't agree completely, nose on RF-35 with (faded) flat paint was quite different from the one used on glossy painted upgrated RF-35. Early RF-35 had no RWR on nose and it was pointed as the one used by Swedish S35E. Early RF-35 also had no ECM fairings on wing tips, no RWR on top of the tail and no chaff dispensers. Voices in the web says Maestro Models is making and early Danish recce nose, untill then we can only made a late RF-35 from Hasegawa offering. Scratchbuilding the old nose could also be a chanche if you are able to combine the point of the Swedish recce nose with the rest of the Danish recce nose, knowing at which point to cut is the main problem here and till now I could not find the courage to give it a try. I had to thank my good freind Jens to help me point out all these differences. Edited December 4, 2009 by Paolo Maglio
Ronald1903
All references checked I thought... D*mn. Never seen it. Well, I appreciate you like it just like me. Wrong nose or not, for me it's a nice model to have (but it's irritant to know it's wrong). Also for the fin tip, it's slightly different. Thanks for the reactions and clearing things out. gotarheelz14
I like it but you might want to take the preshade down a notch. Geez. JUST JOKES LOL!!!! That thing looks awesome. Definitely one of the coolest paint jobs I have seen in a while. Very interesting.
geedubelyer
Hi Ronald, Great subject to model. This is very unusual and you've done a super job of replicating the scheme. (Better take a photo of the real thing with you if you plan to show it though )

Voltaire
What a beauty !!! What are the two green paints that you used for the camo?
NielsDol
I have said it before (on the Modelbrouwers forum) but this is a wonderful piece of work, and I really hope to see it at the IPMS show in Sneek next year. It's a pity that the mistake with the nose is discovered after the model has been finished, but, it still looks stunning! Best regards Niels
Aggressor Supporter
I have never seen this scheme before. Looks awesome! Big
Anders_Isaksson
Great looking Draken! Very interesting paint scheme, definately one I want to try myself - some day. Apologies if I missed this before but is this one built out of the box or are there any extras used? Again, great work! Cheers, Anders
Najk
When I first saw the finished model, I thought "wow, this looks really overdone, not really real..", but when I saw the photos of the real thing, I just had to change my mind.. Really well done, Ronald, it looks just like on the photos, stunning paintjob, dude!!
