Showdown: Mig-21MF X Mig-21SM 1/48

Recommended Posts

Again I've started to be bored with my current projects... so I opened another box... actually boxes! :yahoo:

Here are the challengers:

Because it is not fair compare an old kit with a new one, I got some extra for the Academy kit (kind of doping):

I think the cockpit photo etch too dark so I got one Wolfpack resin set (excellent):

And the Eduard kit:

Sorry I made a mistake on the title... the Eduard kit will be a MT version.

You're a better man than me! That camo scheme is just too much. Great subject choice though. Are you going with the faded colors in the picture or more of an "in-service" look? Don't worry about the mistake on the designation, I never understood what the difference was between the MT, SM and SMT versions.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your progress.

I do like "faded colors" but I don't have skill to do that so because I don't have option I will do "in service" look... But dirty!

hey... but this is not true... I'm not better man than you. Since I returned to the hobby 2 years ago (after a 15 years break) I've never tried a camo... and all my tools are new for me... airbrush, air compressor... I will try not mess up... fingers crossed!

Some progress... The Academy Kit is the light grey plastic (obviously the Eduard is the dark one)

At first look the wheel bays are pretty similar... but Eduard has some "tricks"...

So I added few bits to the Academy kit

I added an extension from the Eduard Phot etch set:

Cockpits:

Eduard

Side panels consist of 4 plastic pieces... plus another plastic, decal or PE (Profi Pack) for the consoles.

For the IP you can choose to paint, decal or PE part (Profipack)

It's not a fair with Academy so I asked help to Wolfpack resin
