1/72 X-Wing Starfighter.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have been working away ever so slowly on my Bandai X-Wing fighter in 1/72. Honestly, there is nothing more that I can say about this kit that hasn't already been written elsewhere. Suffice it to say this kit is pure pleasure and complete fun putting together! I can't remember the last time I had this much fun and ease building a model...its like I am a kid again! If this is how all of the Bandai SW kits are going to be like then my purchases were well made. IMHO it relegates the FM 1/72 X-Wings to a distant 2nd place...again MHO. Excuse the pictures as I am no photographer :D !

Anyway, obligatory box and sprue shot:

Cockpit (red areas are kit supplied/molded in color that will be primed over, masked and painted...Lukes helmet lacks markings in the first shot but are applied in previous shots):

This shot below is just an upper and lower fuselage dry fit...this kit snaps together TIGHTLY so be warned. You end up having to pry parts away from each other if you snap them all the way. You really don't need any glue with this kit at all.

...Sorry, no pictures of my X-Wing primed (Tamiya primer), but here is her current status:

All paint save the yellow (Testers Acrylic RLM Yellow) are Tamiya custom mixed to my liking. Weathering done with the salt technique, dry brushing, shading, pastels, and pigments. More paint/weathering to follow as well as Luke Red 5 markings:

You will also notice the GIB (Guy In Back...a.k.a R2) has not yet been installed:

That's it for now all. Thanks for looking! Comments welcome.

Cheers!

look'n good.

just a personal preference, I prefer a more simple stand base that what is given in the Bandai kits. I feel it makes it seem gimmicky.

still dream'n someone will do the other star fighters in 1:72 ... B-Wing please!

Thanks very much Gregg and Benner!

With regards the Bandai stands I tend to agree that they look a tad toy like and can cheapen the overall look of the model (as do the clear laser cannon bolts and proton torpedo shots IMHO). I used the stand for this build but my other X-Wings will use a clear rod instead.

I also hope Bandai will continue to produce more SW kits. These really are a treat to build! A B-Wing would indeed be cool, as would an ARC-170, Headhunter, Republic Gunship, Republic Drop Ship and PLEASE...PLEASE...for Pete's sakes can we get a new Star Destroyer already!!

Thanks again guys. Stay tuned for the finished product.

Cheers!

Completed a mere 12 hours before 2016! Without a doubt my favorite smaller scale X-Wing kit. Pure joy to build.

Sorry about the lighting and the dark photos. Its been so dark in my neck of the woods and I don't have a photo booth or dedicated space set aside so I rely on the sun...which has disappeared.

Love the build. May have to aquite some of these kits.

Do it...you won't regret it! Honestly these Bandai SW kits are completely stress free and pure fun. No hassles, no fit issues, no gaps. Even the decals are really quite good. They are a great way to jump start your building.

Thanks for looking and commenting  .

Cheers!
