  1. Thanks to my daughter, I've watched Cars 6 times (or maybe seven...) in the past three days. "Daddy, wanna watch Cars, Daddy, wanna watch Cars, Daddy, wanna watch Cars, Daddy, wanna watch Cars..." ad infinitum, ad nauseum. ~rolling eyes~ Anybody notice that the three F/A-18s in the flypast scene of Cars just before the big race near the end of the movie? Seems kinda like a preview to the Planes movie, huh? :D/>

  2. its funny, I posted these on one of the photography sites that I visit regularly, and they were picked apart as being too blurry, too noisy and over cropped.

I dont think I am quite there yet.

    thanks again for the compliments.

    cheers

    Dylan

Please tell me the site isn't photos.net. They're renowned for being picky as hell. And some of them have serious ego problems. Your photos look JUST FINE to me. If you're ever worried about the noise, run it through Neatimage - it's a great little noise-reduction freeware works wonders. The simple fact that the wings were blurred. Hell that demonstrates the action in the photo. Well...not ALL of us have the money to pick up a 500mm or 600mm f/4 prime. They keep yammering about "oh...it's not the equipment, but the technique." Yeah. go after a grizzly bear with a 50mm f/1.8 and see what happens. Oh yeah, that's right, someone did...and got his *** roundly eaten. Hell, Dylan, I think it's just photographer envy most of the time. Most of them couldn't probably do what you did with the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII and they probably can't remember what it was like to not have the $$$ to buy the gear that they now own and have to do with whatever they had at the time. Hell, the only reason I'm able to afford the 600mm f/4 D ED-IF is because I decided to do without the VR and saved my @** off. The ones who put the gear on their "credit card" don't know what it's like to "sacrifice". Your hummingbird shots are great, Dylan, and don't let those "dour dumpers" tell you different.

http://500px.com/photo/12530351 <--- They didn't like the crop on this one. Well... y'know what. It's my style of photography. Not everyone is going to like it. The only thing that's important to me, is whether or not I'm satisfied with the result.

  3. Another shot from June 2, 2013.

Unfortunately, haven't gone out anywhere today.

    06-02-2013_SUR-DT_regunid_A319_wm.jpg

Can anyone tell me what variant of A319 this is?

God I love the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII+TC-20EIII combo, but unfortunately, it doesn't do so well for wildlife. Hopefully the 600 D ED-IF f/4 (non-VR)+TC-14 (the original TC-14 not the EII version) will give me the range I'm looking for. ~evil grin~ Maybe I may take it out to YVR when I get it and scare the living bejeebers out of the incoming pilots by photographing "in-action" portraits of them working the controls as they come in for a landing.

  4. Ooh I loved the CARS Movie..

    I forgot I was mature... :rofl:/>

Just keep forgetting, Holmes. I'll admit to you one thing. They're gonna have to drag me kicking and screaming into "maturity". I've grown up...but I'll be mature...when I'm DEAD!

  5. FTFA:

So we now we are spending extra money to look alike in a time of fiscal constraint? in the interest of saving? Bottom line 3 out of the 4 services are going to have to change, and even then the army still isn't all in multicam.

It is what it is now, I'm sorry to say. the next camo uniform should be uniform with all services, but in the meantime the money has spent, the uniforms issued. You made your bed...etc etc. Enjoy the ACUs and Aquaflauge for a while, we will buy you new ones when the money spigot turns back on.- exactly!

Surprisingly, I completely agree with TT here. 17Trillion in debt and this is what they focus on??? Give me a break!

  6. Jessi, Congrats on the FSM article. Yes, let us know. I've got a couple of F/A-18 Hornets sitting in my stash, that I need to get to. I'm probably the laziest modeler in the bunch here. The last model I completed was a midget 1/144th scale F-14 and haven't touched one since - started a few but haven't completed any. I'd rather pick up my camera first than pick up a model right at the moment. That SuperBug is STUNNING! And your D3100/18-55mm is a great little camera. A top-notch beginners DSLR. And don't knock bedsheets as a backdrop. A raal backdrop and proper flashes will set you back between $500-1000. If you can cobble together a backdrop with some steady illumination and get a "product photo" like that, you're doing better than 75% of us. Great shots of your F/A-18F.

That display shelf is really nice too. I need one as well, but due to the fact that I've rarely finished a model, it'd a. take up space and b. my wife would abscond with it and put stuff of hers in it.

  7. Gorgeous Lightning. One of the beauties flown by the RAF. Don't know what it is about the Lightning, but I want to see one up close and personal in person. If my wife and I ever get over to London, I'll check out the RAF Museum.

  8. the Bruins have FOUR good lines.

I still hate you guys for 2011. But anyways.

I hope you guys get past the Pens. You are up 1-0 anyways. We'll see about the finals with whoever comes out of the West. I hope it's the Kings, but knowing my luck, it'll be the Blackhawks.

  9. yep, summer sched started last week. BA has 2 flight a day,Lufthansa has 2 now, and I will hopefully get Edelweiss air today.

I am still waiting for JAL to start their 787 from NRT. according to the rampie I talked to last week should be happening before the end of june.

Yep; gotta catch one of those 787s. Haven't had a chance to get out with the TC-20EIII yet. But from what I could tell, I got a good copy; it kicks butt on the big aluminum flying birds. And I'm in negotiations for the 600mm; evidently a friend of mine (wildlife photographer) is wanting to sell his 600/4 D ED II (on a payment plan, no less) because he has the...wait for it... 800mm FL ED-IF VR f/5.6 $18,500... YEOWCH!!!! Oh, well, I benefit then. Doesn't matter about the VR (the D ED II doesn't have it); that 600/4 is gonna be living on my Gitzo tripod when I get the tripod and the lens.

  10. On the way to Green Timbers Park, saw a couple of winged thingies flying in towards YVR

If anyone is using Google Photos and post process your own photos, don't use Google's "enhanced" feature, it just screws up your images.

These images were taken with the D300s/70-200mm f/2.8 VRII+TC-20EIII.

  11. Could be worse, just a few minutes ago, I got up from editing...walked over to the fridge, stood there for about 60 seconds, couldn't remember what the hell it was I got up for, closed the fridge door and went back to sit down. Yep...its startin' early.

  12. One that I enjoy saying to people who persist in telling me that "money can't buy happiness"...

Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with

A few others that I enjoy.

I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Some people hear voices. Some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

I'm interested in nothing, with the right story I can make almost anything from it.

I try to watch what I eat and yet my eyes just aren't quick enough.

Some people are like Slinkies not really good for anything, but you can't help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Two wrongs don't make a right, three lefts do.

Some cause happiness wherever they go. Others, whenever they go.

Humanity has achieved, abiding love, peace, progress, truth, beauty, glory, enlightenment and tolerance, on paper.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!

One for the detail-Nazis around here...

Build it and they will complain.

  13. Sorry, this isn't photography, but a proud dad here tooting his son's horn. My second son, Cameron, is eight years old turning nine in a month. Through a "challenge" program, he did an art piece. Now most dads tend to think their sons or daughters' art is really something, but as a photographer... well...I'll let you see for yourselves.

Yes, it's a proud dad here. Need I remind anyone that he's only turning 9 this June?
