  1. Thanks again Lancer. It is a MiniCraft rebox. The placard inside the kit states it to be a PA 18-135. The instructions say Super Cub. I don't know if the 135 hp is really a Super Cub or not. This line of private planes, though I do appreciate to have at least some models of this type, include some documentation inaccuracies. My 1961 Piper Sales brochure for the "Super Cub" specs the O320 150 HP as you said. Locally we used to have a 1959 Super Cub that towed gliders which I believe was a 150 hp. The model has flaps (again as you said) so does the 1961 and the 1959 Super Cubs. The J-3, I ha
  2. Thanks to all for your help. I'm now convinced its the starter drive protruding through the cowl. It's slighly in a different place on my 1/48 scale model, but that's probably a function of the gear diameters. Thanks again ! Jake
  3. I'd like some advice on identifying a part of a Piper Cub vintage 1959 through 1962, Cub or Super Cub. As you face the propellor, there is a hole in the cowling to the right of the vertical centerline that goes between the propellor shaft and the air intake directly below. The hole is closer to the air intake than the prop. That hole appears to have a shaft in it, for some unknown purpose. I can't picture this as a hand crank attachment since the propellor ARC is in the way. Anybody know the name and purpose of this hole and shaft? Jake
