I build primarily 1/72 for cost, space, availability, and habit. However, I'm not a purist. I just picked up a partially constructed 1/24 Bf-109E. What I'll do with it is beyond me, though! I also break out of scale for reasons of decals, kit, or so on only available elsewhere. I am planning a 1/48 F/A-18A+ in VFA-201 Hunters markings from OIF. Would have preferred 1/72, but no decals in that scale. Collecting the right weapons now. Shame is I have everything I wanted (GBU-12s, GBU-32/25, AIM-120C and AIM-9Ls) already - in 1/72! Paying 2x-3x as much to get it all in 48th now.
It's amazing to see how personal and varied our reasons are for our preferred subjects, scales, etc. Thank you all for sharing.

BTW, if you're looking for an unusual load, check out the inboard wing pylons on this F-4D. AIM-4Ds on the inboard faces, and a TER on the bottom of the pylons carrying a pair of Mk-82s in a "flat two" configuration and an ECM pod on the bottom station of the TERs.
Regards,
Murph
Murph-
Any idea what squadron/wing this was? My interest is definitely piqued. Thanks SO much for posting this!

Look forward to seeing your build. Love the late Tomcats! Of course I love the early ones too...

Took these days ago, only now got around to uploading.
Just prepping parts and putting the first of the paint on. This will be in the Tomcatters scheme, and unarmed with an asymmetrical pylon arrangement seen at a recent Oceana airshow. I will need to cant the pylons out at 4 degrees, as the kit has them parallel with the centerline (gasp!).

I'm in - 1/144 F/A-18E Dragon, VFA-31 Tomcatters. Just opened the box today and washed the parts. Photos in a build thread this coming weekend.
Plenty more USN in the stash, so with any luck I can finish 2-3 total for this GB. I just have to get a pesky pre-production A-10 out of the way 1st.

I'm not offended by the "one side one way, the other side another" type marks. I've seen very nice airliners done this way on the contest tables.
Looking forwards to seeing the build!

Maintenance hangar at the 911 AW, Pittsburgh IAP.
Allison T56 on a stand. I figure the stand counts for this thread.
C-130 Radar. The stand doesn't like you'd use it on the ramp, but it is on the ground!
Every show they have a big display in the hangar, with maintenance equipment, test boxes for electronics, safety equipment, etc.

More traditional...
Light cart at Pittsburgh IAP:
Lav service cart and KC-135 or C-130 work stands at Niagara Falls, NY:
The stand is named "Louie." Is there a "Huey" or Dewie?" Also, note the message in the 2nd pic - "Caution do not disturb working elves." Are they taking in maintenance for a sleigh?
Boarding stairs used on an F-16, also at Niagara Falls.

Time to bump this thread. Here is perhaps one of the most basic pieces of ground equipment, the wheel chock.
Basic yellow used with an F-15C:

Hellfires from PA ANG Apaches (A and D models, photos from 2005 and 2010).
The gold bands on the MMW version (?) are a metallic gold sticker of some kind, this doesn't show up too well in the photos.

HARM and Slammer on an F-16CJ from the SC ANG. Wings over Pittsburgh 2007:
Note the RBF band covering the sensors on the AGM-88 (would this be an ATM-88?).

VERY excellent work! Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for sharing the cool pix! ;)
I do have to ask - what is with the strange loadout on Felix 105? Did they actually fly with a Phoenix next to a JDAM? Also, the white fins on the AIM-7M look kind of weird. Shouldn't they be natural metal? Just trying to find out the real answers, I would hope the folks at NASM try to get these things right.

These are very cool! One of my pet peeves in modeling is incorrect or poorly detailed ordnance; folks like you give us the tools to build them right!
;)

Surprised to see one of the 911th AW Hercs down in TX. Didn't know they made it that far for shows, but I guess if people can come visit PIT for our show, the 911th can go down in return. I hadn't seen that nose art before; with the Buccos' record lately, I'm surprised anyone would want their name on a plane. Notice that the players are all from glory times past.
"Hard to Get" is one of my new favorites - is that a B-26C? ;)
Holmes - thanks for the note, I'll go through my more recent pix and see what else I have.
And as always, thanks to everyone who is sharing on this thread. Great stuff!

VERY nice, indeed! Kudos.

I've kept a gallery of these on my Webshots page for a while:
Here are a few samples:
Sorry about the pitots in the way. Nothing to be done, unfortunately.
107th ARW - A unit that isn't there anymore, except as an associate.
F-14D - making me misty eyed!
A Texan (the old one, not from Raytheon).
Photo quality is not expert level, but there may be some rarities in there for you to enjoy.

Weasel Keeper-
Thanks for sharing the pix. I admit I didn't have high hopes for what your unit's birds would look like given some of what I feel are ho-hum markings from some other squadrons, but these are very cool!
-
Beautiful pictures
Why is there not a 1/32 model of this bird somewhere?
Paging Mr. Trumpeter... Mr. Trumpeter, white courtesy telephone please.
We should be careful what we wish for - it'll be covered with rivets!

Cool pix, thanks for sharing!
What is the adapter (?) on the outboard pylon here? I don't believe I've seen it before.
