  1. GS Hypo Cement

I use this for all my canopies, it's awesome stuff - wont hurt your transparent canopy, and sticks well. It's also probably what was mentioned above as 'watchmakers' cement, as it is indeed used by jewellers and watchmakers. It's also got a great applicator for real precision work.

  2. fleafish I think you will get much better results using masking tape there. Tamiya is hands-down the best IMNSHO.

As for the under-runs, for the original poster, I would also suggest, if you're using an airbrush, to spray from a slightly opposing angle to the perpendicular of your subject.

    Angle of spray: //////////
    Masking Tape: _______________________
    Top of subject: ====================================

Hope that made sense. In that way, you avoid any pressure or aim directly into any tiny gaps in your masking tape. Also helps if you spray lightly and not lay it on thickly.

  3. Just curious, but are those Unification War helmets in the male set, fourth from the right?

They are from the original Macross/Robotech TV series, rather than the later movie, or sequels, which I all enjoy too! The difference is that these are the 'atmospheric' version where they didn't wear a visor, just and open-faced helmet.

  4. Hi Folks

Thanks for everyone's support for our SW series 'Rebel Pilots'.

I'm very pleased to announce we are now launching our new pilots ranges here:

Each set contains 4 seated pilots, and two standing pilot/officers. They are pressure cast in high-quality resin while the standing pilots have minimal flash, the only clean up on the seated pilots will be running the base across some sandpaper. They are designed for use with various Macross garage kits, and Hasegawa's Valkyries.

  5. I'm thinking of doing a rendition of one of the 2-seater Swifts Mig-29 Fulcrums - in 1/72 scale. What's the best kit I could use as a starter? I haven't build any jets for a long, long time so any info would be helpful. I've done a bit of search on these forums, but some of the info might be out of date. For example, is Italieri still the best kit of this in this scale? Happy to use option kits as well, although I love scratchbuilding too.

Thanks for any contributions, all valued!

  6. Here is a VF2SS from Macross 2. Although the anime wasn't the best, the mecha design was very cool. Bandai made a 1/100 scale injection kit, but it wasn't as detailed as I'd liked. After a lot of hunting I finally got hold of the rare 1/72 scale resin kit which I've finally completed. Instead of the mostly white which appeared in the anime, I decided to make this Max J's blue and white striped special, although he did not appear in this version of Macross. I got my inspiration from the cover of an old B-Club magazine.

I decided to keep the gloss finish. Usually I'd do a matt coat, but it just looked 'right'. Of course this means it doesn't photograph as nice, but since I build all models for display and personal enjoyment, it's not a big deal for me. And the blue looks quite a bit darker in these pics than it does in real life, although the finish changes the colour all the time. Still, I hope you enjoy these pics of my VF2SS 'Max Special'. Thanks for looking!

  7. I was under the impression that Tamiya acrylics in the small bottles were compatible with the Tamiya spray cans. I've done a delicate airbrushed finish with Tamiya acrylics, thinned with their appropriate Tamiya thinner, and let dry for a few days. I gave a light coat of Tamiya clear from the spraycan. I have a lovely surface finish, except for 1 thing... the feathered airbrushed areas - now underneath the clear, where I have put a lighter colour on have 'mottled'. It's as if the Tamiya clear has dissolved them, ever so slightly.

I've use Tamiya clear to seal Tamiya acrylics with no issues before, but the last time I did this was around a year ago. Any ideas?

I'll try and post a pic tomorrow.
