Well, after a long hiatus I am (somewhat) back! My first completed model in 4 years, this one being more of a confidence builder than anything. Here's a little background info.
I had a Tamiya 1/48 F-51D kit which I had intended to do as a Korean war era bird (the one with the shark mouth from the front of the box), but after a frustating bout with the alcad II black primer (devilish stuff it is), I put it away back in the stash mostly finished, out of frustration, and there it has sat for the last 4 years (+1 move). Well, since then the B-58 and A-6 I had been working on were accidentally smashed by the kids (just trying to be like daddy, lol), with the B-58 being a complete loss, and to top that off my air compressor was damaged in the move, so between the damaged kits and compressor my modeling motivation sank quite a bit.
Well, the other day I was browsing through aircraft pictures and profiles, and found a profile of a P-51D flown by 2. Staffel of the Versuchsverband der Oberkommando der Luftwaffe, and all at once i remembered that old F-51D kit sitting in its box under my desk! As my air compressor was still out of comission, i checked to see if I had any modelmaster spray cans left over, and I had what I needed, so I determined to finish this kit once and for all with my new found subject matter.
It felt so great to finally complete a model after such a long dry spell. I'm quite pleased. I determined not to get overly detailed with it as this was more of a fun/motivational build, but now i think i want to do a bit more weathering (at the time this was taken, I had already started the weathering process, but I still have more I will do before the flat coat). I'm also undecided if I want to hang this from the roof or make a stand for it, whenever I decide I'll be sure to post a picture. Some other things as well: first, I know the antenna is broken off; it disappeared sometime in the last 4 years, and I have no clue where it is. Initially I was not going to worry about it, but given that it turned out better than expected I do believe I'll scratch build one after all. Second, the green may appear a bit brighter than it should, that is due to the lighting and color settings on my phone. The decals come from an old set of aeromaster Fw 190 decals for JG 300.
As I said before, it feels good to be back! Now to decide what to build next.......... :cheers:/>/>
Regrettably, I cannot seem to shrink the photos in photobucket from my phone to make them fit better:-/

Hey Guys,
I know I've been absent from the forum for quite a while - been going through quite a few "life changes" over the last 6-8 months that's kept me away from ARC, and modeling in general. Being that's the case, and that it doesn't look like my scheduling is going to be changing for quite a while, I'd like to offload some of these kits. I'll add more as I have time; but for now this is what I'll be putting up.
All kits are 1/48, shipping will be US and Canada only. Any questions please ask. Prices DO NOT include shipping. Reasonable Offers will be considered. almost forgot to mention...payment via Paypal is preferred.

I heard about this earlier today(though this has been around for quite a while - it's not been news that the colors sucked; neither is it "new news" that big army is dumping it in favor for something that actually works - that's been in the grapevine over a year now at least), and figured I'd hop on over here out of curiosity to see if it's been discussed - and it has! Haha, totally not surprised. More or less find it amusing that we're discussing old news.
My 2 cents worth: Army should've gone with what the Marines did, save time and development costs; and when it was announced I figured that's what we'd do (cause gee, that makes complete sense, and we both had BDU's that were essentially identical - so it seemed plausible) - needless to say I was much surprised when they rolled out with that junk... Colors sucked off the back - and weren't worth a d*mn. Not to mention if you dared take a knee that you would rip out your poorly constructed crotch.. And the Velcro shot noise discipline out the door... Poor choices all around. Now, on the flip side, last I heard the Marines weren't permitting big Army to utilize MARPAT, as awesome as it was because they wanted it exclusively for marines (I believe they even have it copyrighted if I'm not mistaken); so that puts MARPAT off the table.
Long story short, I welcome the multicam.

"hey doc, I have this issue....."
Too many things come to mind when you say it like that! Hahahahahaha.....

Skyraider!!!!!!!
Or Skyshark!
Skypirate!!!!! (argh!)
I'm partial to Uhu ("Eagle-Owl") myself

This is way easy:
Guinness
Smithwicks
Späten Optimator & Oktoberfest
Chimay (blue label)
And last, but not least, Shiner Bock! (to include Shiner black)
There's a local beer served at the Meers burger restaurant that is awesome and highly intoxicating! I can't remember what it's called - but I'll post a pic when I can get home (I took a pic of it :D ) it's in Meers, OK just north of Ft. Sill/Lawton. And if anyone wants an incredible burger, the Seismic meersburger is out of this world; their cobblers and homemade ice cream are great too!
Basically, if it's not Belgian, German, Or Irish, I don't drink it - only exception is Shiner, but it's made like German beers, so it's good. American beer is just plain lousy - i only drink it out of courtesy so as not to insult.

I would love to see a fuse without the armor and also one with the side door.
I would love a entire family of Spads, period! To include the A2D Skyshark seeing that was developed from the Spad. :D
Frankly, I'd love to see a Ju 388 in something other than resin; not to mention a B-47, C-123, C-119 or P-3 as well - all these in 1/48 of course
-
Yep, those are it! I didn't realize they were still available.
Thanks,
Kyle
Yeah - some time back someone mentioned this guy on the general discussion forum section, asking about the guy and company; from what I recall feedback was positive - He's just selling the remainder of his stock of CE decals - so once they're gone, they're gone. I need to get a bunch of 4th FW stuff from him myself :D as well as his Skyraider sets. He's got the 4th FW decals in 1/32 as well on there.
Take care,
Justin

Let's make sure this chat does not devolve into a political one. It is fair to chat/critique/pontificate about this kit, the choice of it as a release subject and anything else related to the model itself and modeling, including what Kittyhawk should or should not consider as their next release(s).
However, politics are better discussed elsewhere.
Ha! That's a fine line right there... A real fine line - I think there's usually a lot in common between "look what's coming out next" thread and something political than people care to admit. Argument style is the same, you're just changing out topics - someone is going to flame someone else who's going to flame someone else, or even a manufacturer, etc. Yes, "no politics" is good in concept - and granted there have been some mighty interesting threads that have gone the way of the dodo because they gt fiercely intense, got political, started off political, etc.. Etc... But you know, other heated discussions whether about models, new releases, airline mergers, new aircraft, etc.. are all the same kinds of arguments - so whats the point? Merely, that it's not necessarily the topics themselves, but moreso the individuals involved, where the issues truly reside. You can have different topics, and limit what subjects can be discussed, but 5 year olds are going to act like 5 year olds...
Most of the discussion topics are typically pretty interesting; problem is you typically have a bunch of know-it-all jerks who all think they're right, chiming in with their all-knowledgeable, all-supreme "I'm the only one who's right" point-of-view on a particular subject (I.e P-40's in the desert, AA vs US Air, F-35 related news,...new kit releases, all to name a few.....) that they know more of than anyone else, with all counter arguments being horridly inferior and un-educated compared to theirs. (I'm not saying they are no valid points, or no personal experience, I'm merely conveying the proud attitude that's driving the bitter in-fighting and hiding behind all the comments). So is there really a difference? Heck, I've seen non-political discussions get far worse and not get locked (and rightfully needing it), and comparatively tame, semi-political discussions get locked in a heartbeat just because something political was mentioned. I understand the ultimate reasoning behind it, but it really doesn't change things. As long as there's folks hiding behind computer screens, you're going to have nothing but a bunch of young roosters to deal with...
So my thoughts before I go? It's pretty stupid to argue about what should've come out, or what the better choice would have been, when the topic released is already set in stone, regardless of whether it's an F-35 or an Il-2... Its better to apply ones thinking elsewhere; at least make it productive.
And a quick note Rick, this isn't particular to you, you just hit on something I've been noticing more and more...
That is all....
P.S. Kitty Hawk, looks like ya'll are off to a great start! Looking forward to seeing more, keep up the good work!

S-M:
I don't deny there are better pipers, better pipe bands and songs played on the pipes than what I linked in my post. I was posting what I personally thought was a great version of Amazing Grace. My father was an accomplished piper. Growing up in Ireland, he played the Uilleann Pipes and he also played the bagpipes. In the late 60's, after living in Canada for over a dozen years, helped form the Ottawa Police Pipes and Drums Band. They used to practice at what was CFB Rockcliffe and one night while they were practicing, so was the Air Force Pipe Band and the Armed Force Band. I remember the three bands playing a rendition of Amazing Grace similar to this. I'll always remember that. As a matter of fact, a current member of the OPS Pipe Band is a world champion; Andrew Hayes. Check him out. Now there's piping for you!
Mike
Mike,
I wasn't saying it was bad, just cliché (I may not have done quite a good job of pointing it out that way; as a piper, I always get a little annoyed that our genre is typically defined merely by "Amazing Grace" and "Scotland the Brave" by most folks when there are vastly more impressive compositions out there - so generally, I mean it more for educational purposes - not in a belittling sense). It is awesome that you have such a good bagpipe "base"
That's really awesome about your father! I really really really want to learn the Uilleann pipes! Just they're so darn expensive :-/ one day.... I bet that was awesome hearing all 3 bands playing Amazing Grace at the same time. I was in the VMI pipe band at one point, and really enjoyed it when the reg band and us played together - we'd play stuff like Shenandoah and Amazing grace together, it was great!

Good call on Amazing Grace ...
Here's one of my favorite renditions of the song ...

Amazing Grace?!?! Childs Play I say! Please....I'd say thats the most recognizable Bagpipe tune next to Scotland the Brave - which in a grand sense is lame....... considering there's FAAAAAAR Better songs on the pipes out there. Don't get me wrong, Amazing grace is a truly a great tune for the most respectable sitations, but by no means is it a measure of pure-bagpipe-awesomeness.... Allow me to demonstrate:
My opinion, best solo piper of all time, Neil Anderson of Rathkeltair - hands down, no question
Had the pleasure of seeing him live in 2005 at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - incredible.
Best Pipe Band ever? Thats tough, but I'd have to say The Victoria Police Pipe Band - Multi-world Pipe Band Competition Champions (a pity that the Australian government stepped in and destroyed such a grand competition band - it was truly a great loss to the world competition circuit)! Here's the Hellbound train: a truly AMAZING tune, I think it's only topped by the Murray's Fancy Suite (pity that youtube doesn't have that... you can find it on iTunes - it's truly their best tune I think). The flow and coordination of the band is awesome! I especially love the harmonies in this particular song.
(Sorry, but I've maxed the amount of videos I can post, so the rest are in links - but I think you get the point)
#2? I'd say that's a tie between the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and 78th Fraser Highlanders - I'd say it goes back and forth between them.
SFUPB
78th Fraser Highlanders
and finally, for something truely beautiful, a taste of Uilleann Pipes:
A helpful "taste" from your friendly ARC-resident Bagpiper

but it looks like I will have to design a custom set for my project.
...maybe a nice project for Caracal?... Maybe a nice sheet with both fu-kemal and fu-kemal-tu? Just a thought

It is was a real aircraft. I've seen a photo or two of it, just can't remember where. I'll dig through my B-29 refs tonight. I don't think anyone has done decals for it.- - Would be fun, if for nothing else, the shock value.
Cheers, Terry

Thanks! While I do agree, I think the color pattern works well the the P-51; reminiscent of the P-51As and Bs, with a splash of yellow for funzies! I do have a Do 335 and Me 262 I intend to paint up as planes tested by Watson's Whizzers. :thumbsup:/>
