  1. I have heard alot of nice things about the Tamiya Emil. But I guess when it comes to the F/G/K series Has wins hands down as they don't really have any competitor...which when I think about it that is weird. Why did Tamiya not do later versions of the BF109 as Has did FW190 and so did Tamiya. What year did Hasegawa retool their FW's? Is it only the A-3 and A-8 that have been retooled? What about the A-4 kit#09745?
  2. The guys that were staying MM RLM 70 and 71 are way off I will agree with the RLM 71 being way off but according to the above paint sample MM RLM 70 looks like an exact match to the JPS RLM 70. Actually to me the MM RLM colors (accept for RLM71) all look pretty darn good. From what I have been hearing many have been bashing MM Series 2 paints that they are so way off RLM and RAF. I don't think there is a single model paint company that all colors are perfect matches or could I be wrong?
  3. What suprises me is when I look in the Gallery on this website under FW190 and all the 1/48th kits are all Tamiya, there is like one Hasegawa, and when I search on the net for reviews etc again 98% Tamiya, the only Has ones are in 1/32nd. That makes me question how good can the Has 1/48 FW190 be?
  4. Well with the Tamiya D9 is not that accurate (noticed in the exhaust opening there is no devider between the exhausts) then maybe the new Eduard FW190D-9 coming out next year will solve the issue in 1/48th.
  5. All very good points. I don't mind 1/48th and there is alot of kits available. The other issue is 1/32nd you need to get seat belts from Eduard and no one hobby store in my whole province carries this stuff, not anymore any how. And living in Canada is cost me way too much to order from the the U.S. online hobby distributors. But in 1/48th I have a guy here in the city next to me (Guelph Ontario) and he owns Ultracast and makes and sells resin seats with belts molded on for pretty much every WWII plane, plus he does exhaust, wheels, etc. So I have no problem getting this stuff and it is f
  6. Is the 1/32nd version as good or better than the 1/48th? Reason I ask is everyone raves how great the 1/32 FW190 and BF109 kits are from Hasegawa compared to their 1/48th cousins.
  7. Thanks so much, that is really good advice. I read somewhere on the net postings there was a kind of wire or solder for wiring 1/48 radial engines and they listed the gauge/size or the wire and I can't remember it and can't seem to locate that article.
  8. Anyone heard anything more about the new Eduard 1/48 FW190D-9 Profi Pack kit coming out? I read somewhere that it will be easier to build than the other FW190 kits and won't be so over-engineered.
  9. I am thinking of picking up the E and the N, can anyone tell me if these kits are nice. I heard the module break down of the fuselage was kind of hated by many but are there any other short falls?
  10. I hear ya loud and clear. The issue for me is I live in Ontario Canada and I can't find an online supplier for paint in Canada and for me to order from Sprue Brothers or other places in the states I get killed on border tarrifs and taxes and extra's like that. Canada is not a small country but I can't seem to find any on line companies to order from. I am trying to locate a hobby or toy store that carries Poly Scale Military acrylic paints but the only stores that carry it are Train Stores and they only carry the PS train paints and are not willing to order the others.
  11. Well that really sucks. The only paints available to me are Tamiya and Model Master line. I really wish Tamiya made proper RLM colors and others in their Acrylic Paint Line.
  12. I was wondering if there was any step by step documented process with pictures on how to wire a radial engine (FW190A-8, P-47, etc) and what type and size of wire to use (solder, something else). I have never done this before and not sure how what supplies to buy and how to go about doing it. Also would be interested in how to do the brake lines on landing gear.
  13. Anyone else prefer 1/48 WWII props? I hope companies keep making new kits in this scale and don't just focus on 1/32.

    FW190

Can you elaborate on "later in the war"?....maybe year timeframe? I am building the Tamiya FW190A-8/R2. ANOTHER QUESTION: If I want to replace the wing cannons with brass/steel tubing does anyone know what the size of tubing is I need for 1/48 scale FW190's?

    FW190

I have looked at some pictures of on line builds with the cowling hatches opened up to display the engine and it looks clear that the inside color of the cowling is RLM02. ANOTHER QUESTION: If I want to replace the wing cannons with brass/steel tubing does anyone know what the size of tubing is I need for 1/48 scale FW190's?

    FW190

Thanks so much, those are nice instructions. I was going to use RLM02 for the inside of the cowl, glad you provided me with this information.

    FW190

Just looking for some help. Darn instruction sheets for my 1/48 FW kits don't advise what color the inside of the cowling is. Tells you the engine color and everything else but. Can someone please help me out?
  18. I am currently building this kit and I am stumped on whether the air outlet doors should be open or closed. Were these doors closed or open when the aircraft was parked on the ground?
  19. Model Master Metalizers Burnt Iron works well and then rust pastels and they also make Burnt Metal color also.
  20. The painting instructions for parts on the engine indicate to paint a mixture of XF-12 JN Grey and XF-23 Light Blue, what color does this make?
  21. I bought one Tamiya FW190 and one Hasegawa. I think Hasegawa is much better in detail etc vs the Tamiya kit. One thing I hated about the Tamiya kit is they mold the 20mm cannon into the top halve of the wing, that is kind of crappy and makes it hard to sand the wing by the fuselage as the molded in cannon is in the way. I also think the Tamiya mold is an older mold and Hasegawa updated their kits G-K series any how and Tamiya just tosses in some extras and new decals etc to make other version. I have the new Tamiya 1/48 A6M5/5a kit and it is the best 1/48 kit I have seen to date. Would be
  22. Anyone else that has tried building these kits want to chime in?
  23. Nice job Hal, that looks awesome!
  24. I know the Tamiya is easy to build, the Hasegawa is more accurate and pretty easy to build but, I hear the Eduard are the most acccurate but very hard to build and lot's of putty. Is this true?
