Jay,
the Italeri is a nice kit, but as you say Kerbside. I hacked the back off mine and added a Reji resin engine and PE details. I also made fuel tanks, and detailed the engine bay some more. The decals are superb. I recommend it.

Tony,
There are lithographs of the proposed paint scheme, but I've never seen a picture of the machines painted up like that. Personally I'm sceptical.

wonderland models - quite one of the best stores I've visited, highly recomended.

Hey guys, next week I'll be visiting Valence, Nice and Monaco, are there any good model stores there? Most of my searches have come up with RC stores, or Joue Club, which aren't too bad I suppose.
Any info would be gratefully received.

John,
I'm very close to you and have be modelling for years. The nearest serious shop is Birringer in Merchweiler, maybe 35km west of RAB. Take-off in Lorsch is also highly recommended. Just accross the border in Metz there's a good store in the underground shopping arcade. If you have any questions, PM me, I work on RAB.

Thanks but do you have an image of the eagle with the rockets that's on the nose art as well? I have a real hard time finding a good image of it.
Jon,
the 'New' badge is different to the 'old' one and in a different location, All I have is the 1/72 decal sheet.
Sorry!

Jon, here is the team badge which I think is the same as the one on the wingtip. The Team *might* have changed the colours, I've seen a newer version of it. If you see a picture of the complete team, you will notice that there are at least three different Camo variations under the stripes. Yous should be able to save this graphic, once it's resized it should be okay.
Cheers, and good luck with the build.

Hi Phil, I am modelling the same helicopter from the May 9 2009 parade in Russia. It's yellow 52 of Berkuts team and has exactly this nose art as on your 1/72 model. Do you have any good quality image of the eagle emblem? Wonderful work by the way, beautifully done on such a small scale. Did you use masks for this?
Jon,
I used a good picture of the graphic and scanned it, then modified it with a coputer programme. Finally I printed it on to clear decal using inkjet decal film. Close-up it's a bit ragged, but from a distance it looks okay. Some of the earlier machines were also sponsored by Stewart Aviation and had big sponsorship logos on them, the leaders bird was completely different, called Vertikal T it was mainly black with lots of coloured stripes on it, I've built this in 1/72 as well.
I also have the decals for the newest scheme, I just need a decent 1/72 Kit of the model. Tell me what you need in the way of graphics and I'll see what I can find.

I'm not aware of any 1/24 kit of the Stratos that offers engine detail. In 1/20 however, the Entex kit gives you the option of an openable engine cover and front clip. The Dino engine is done in all it's glory, and the detail is spectacular. Bandai did the plastic. I've got the kit sitting in my pile.
Smithery, Reji made a resin engine & gearbox. I also used the PE on my italeri kit.
Jan, if you are really brave, chop the back off it!
I noticed that your Air filter is in a strange location, but there were so many variants of this engine almost no two were alike.
Jan I have a few pictures of an original Stratos if you need them for reference purposes. Just give me a shout.

Thanks for the help and details!
I have been searching lots of Russian and Belarusian forums for this also. I'm going to get the decal custom made now.
Glad you liked my Chechnya Dio. It suffered a sad fate by falling off my work table, but I have been rebuilding it slowly. I also considered changing the tank to a T-62. I plan to continue the diorama soon.
Jon,
I assume you are modelling the 'Late' scheme. If you are competent with an airbrush then have a go at it yourself. The earlier scheme more complex, I used decal film, but the badges were home-made on my Alps Printer.
The graphic for the team badge is readily available for custom printing, have a go, to be honest my biggest problem was getting the camo right! Admittedly it's in 1/72 but I'd urge you to give it a go. 1/25 is far more forgiving!

Guys,
In the Late war a batch of 50 Lancasters were built with a Rose turret at the rear that had twin .50 cal guns instead of 4 x 303 guns.
Just to make it confusing!

I bought a couple of time from this guy, always fast and reliable. He also sells on Ebay.

But not always original. He does some excellent reproduction Aerobatic Team Patches, but reproductions all the same.

To the best of my knowledge, both Hobbytreff am Zoo and PM-Modellbau are still in business.
Hobbytreff should be reachable by public transportation. PM, on the other hand, is in a residential area farther out from the city centre and could therefore be harder to reach.
I was there 3 months ago, and a bit of history: PM Modellbau was an utter Aladdins cave, stuff had been on the shelves for 30 years and so had the prices. The Owner dies maybe 3-4 years ago and was only really interested in Train stuff. It is open again but with a severely reduced stock, but it's still worth a visit.
Hobbytreff am Zoo is also well worth a look, the premises are bigger than the old ones at at the shop near the zoo, and they have lots of manufacturers stuff in stock.
Take-Off is well worth a visit if you can get there.
Cheers

This is terrible news. I met Jean-Pierre at various model shows, he always had stuff I was interested in and was always keen to know what the modeller wanted, his resin kits were always highly sought-after.
A thoroughly nice man, he will certainly be missed, but his memory and legacy will live-on in the plastic that we build.

Kutscha, Rob,
Sorry about the late reply, I've been very busy. The Photo of the Huey on the Hilltop is in the Alps. My buddy 'Gubby' was the pilot, he's now instructing somewhere else on a different type. When I saw the Hangars at Landsberg/Penzing I was amazed at how clean the German Hueys were, they really are well cared for.
One final tale, the orange paint on the doors cost €50 thousand! Lord knows why, but Gubby operated a button on the stick that rotated the winch out of the door. Of course the door normally has to be open. That's why his Cab had a camo Starboard door.
I did some Photos for Whirlybirds, they make PE Snowshoes for the skids.

Georg,
Which squadron will this be? I have a friend who flew for LTG61 and I have lots of detail pictures, especially the snow shoes. If you had decided to build an NVG equipped UH-1D then the cockpits are completely black - it saves a lot of detailing effort!

Here are a couple:
Big one, little one.
Asas de Portugal, specifically modified:
The unfinished AH-1S - still needs clearcoat.

Jlues,
I'm in, but not sure what with at the moment. Just finishing a 'Sky Soldiers' AH-1S and will have to peruse my vast stash of stuff for something unique and different. I might build the CASA 101 Aviojet (Patrulla Aguila) or go completely off the scale and build a C-130A (Four Horsemen) or possibly my Noratlas (Patrouille Guimauve) we shall see.

p.s. not wishing to add ANY fuel to the fire, but this is a GB for Team Aircraft right?

Outstanding!
The Brussels Air Museum has to host one of the finest model shows EVER! I have spent many a happy hour in there and look forward to it in the future.
I'll be sending this link to my buddies.

Maurizio,
The covers are made of vinyl/plastic and quite heavy.
Note my little one - it had to be done!
Hope this helps

Carlo,
is this what you are looking for? There is one at the Luftwaffe Museum at Berlin/Gatow.
Hope this helps

p.s. I'll be there again in September of this year if you need some seriously detailed pictures.

What's inaccurate about it? As far as I knew (and I've only built one about 4 years ago) it was the best game in town.
Jon
Jon,
in a nutshell: The skids are faired, and should be tubes, the rocket pods are wrong (19 shot, should be 7 shot), various antennae are missing, some antennas are included that should be omitted, and the instructions are pretty innaccurate as far as painting goes. And I had to make my own smoke pods! Apart from that the detail is impeccable.
This may seem exceedingly pedantic, however, Hasegawa have trumpeted this kit with excellent box artwork and decals, yet it seems that they have included a kit without any attempt to upgrade or amend it. Perhaps I'm just being a stickler for detail, but I really expected a little better. I'd expect this from Airfix, but not one of the big Japanese Manufacturers, and not at the price that they were asking for either.
I'm going to dig out one of my Fujimi Cobras to compare them. I must also stress that I am in no way an expert in this field BUT I have studied lots of pictures before starting the build to ensure accuracy and that's when I saw the differences.

I've got pictures of the F2A from 92 Sqn which resides at (what was) RAF Gatow.
I've resized a picture but I cannot upload it. Might there be a problem uploading?

So, how do these hobbyboss Cobras stack up against the Hasegawa AH-1's? Really wanting to build a few cobras now but not sure what kit to use.
I'd also be interested to know - I'm 80% complete on a Hasegawa 'Sky Soldiers' AH-1F which I'm really not impressed with. Hasegawa have dragged an old AH-1F mould out, made some nice decals and packaged it in a double-kit box. Having done some fairly detailed research, it appears that the 'Sky Soldiers' AH-1's differ from the kit. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I'd expect Hasegawa to get it right. I've also got 2 Fujimi AH-1F models in the loft that I might drag out and look at to see if they are more accurate. It really is an old model, there's quite a bit of flash on the sprues and they made it in green (?) surely grey would have been easier?

Roy,
it's not completely the same. The Heller kit has the roof mounted sight, which the Airfix does not, this would also be a worthwhile addition to the resin project as the Heller kit is not easy to find.
