  1. Hi all I want to build a flanker in 1:72 scale. I understand it's a choice of trumpeter j11b or icm; which is best? I understand that there is a problem with the nosecone of icm, has anyone used the dream model correction for this? I can live with/fix the wheel bay issue of trumpeter's offering. Thanks in advance.
  2. Wow just checked the site; had no idea that there was an acrylic that could look that good; that's definitely what I'm gonna go for thanks!!
  3. Hi all My local hobby shop is stocking 'humbrol chrome silver' in a can. Has anyone used this? If so, how does it compare as a metallic finish to tamiya as-12 in terms of reflectivity, and generally looking like metal rather than paint? Can't get alclad where I am.
  4. I realise what you mean about 100% accuracy; let me say as accurate as I can make it; that will be a big step forward for my modelling. Anyway, as I'm learning I'm narrowing in on the details, so here goes; If I wanted to model a black knights CAG jet in april 1994 (Bu No. 161270), whilst aboard USS Independance, what would a typical loadout be? I'm really keen on air-to-air, would f14's at this time be flying with air-to-air loads? (I know this is dumb, but bombs on a tomcat don't sit well with me!)
  5. Sorry 'bout that; anyway thanks again, you've already been a big help. I had my heart set on a full phoenix, sparrow and 'winder loadout, but that would mean two weapons sets (which gets expensive for me in SA), and then selecting markings for which that would be likely (not sure if it even is likely at all). I suppose I could rather go with just sparrows and winders, or maybe with a tarps pod? That would mean only one weapons set. Seems a shame though; as a kid the tomcat/phoenix combo was what I always read about. I know others have whined about this, but I really don'tget why hasegawa put t
  6. Brian, and everyone else, thanks very very much!! (If that's Brian Marbrey from fightertown, I recently used your swordsmen decals and I must say I was blowm away by the quality!!) I think that gived me enough info for now, will post back once I've purchased the lot (and pacified my wife re. the money spent!)
  7. Sorry EagleAviation just to clear something up; I was thinking of using the academy kit for tyres and weapons (one kit solving two problems) This is of course dependant on the hasegawa wheel hubs being correct (will only use the tyre part from academy) and the weapons from academy being of a comparable standard to hasegawa. If need be I will get the royale resin wheels+hasegawa weaopons. I will be get6ting a resin cockpit regardless
  8. I hear you nineoniner, but would modex 100 change aircraft (BuNo.)? I never thought of that to be honest.
  9. Sorry, just to add that I can't find the wheeliant set on ebay-I bought the f14 on ebay from china, and can do the same with the cockpit. Thanks for the suggestion though!!
  10. Well, not impossible, just more difficult I guess than buying from a chinese supplier (for political reasons.....don't much like our government) shipping from the states they whack us with tax, and the shipping itself seems more expensive. Trust me I did the pricing and it seems cheaper to buy the academy kit rather than 2 weapons sets and resin replacement wheels.
  11. Calling all you tomcat experts,I need your help!! I am trying to build a 100% accurate f14 in 1/48 scale.I have bought the hasegawa 'black knights history' kit, and I would like to know a few things; 1. I understand that the main wheel hubs of f14s changed a lot during their lifespan. I am not sure if the main wheel hubs supplied with the kit match the aircraft I would like to build-I want to build a model that is a)low viz with or without the skunk stripe and b)I can arm up with a full air-to-air loadout of phoenixes, sparrows and sidewinders. Is this loadout realistic for this squadron? Im
