  1. I have heard good things about the Badger 150. I have a Badger 175 "Crescendo" which I use for large areas but the 150 is reputed to be better for small detail painting and is said to be an excellent starter brush. I use an Iwata HP-C for my detail work and I'm happy with it.

I have used a variety of lacquers, enamels and acrylics and I've found that acrylics work best when thinned with the brand of thinner that is designed for it. Windex works well for cleaning acrylics out of the airbrush. For enamels and lacquers I thin the paint with cheap hardware store lacquer thinner and use more lacquer thinner for clean up.

  2. That old Revell (Monogram) P-40B still builds up pretty well. This one is my latest........

The newer Revell marked kits are from mould tooling that has been in use since the early '60s so you may have some problems with warped parts. Some folks insist on sanding off the raised detail and re-scribing them but I don't go that far. The etched sets are intended to be attached to cockpit pieces that the Revell kit may not have but by using the etched set instructions you could get a good idea what you could scratch build and add to the kit. My P-40 has a True Details resin 'pit that adds a lot of detail to the build. If you build it with the canopy closed you won't really need so much detail.

I use a variety of glues. If the kit is warped I would recommend a liquid glue so that you could work small areas by brushing in the glue and holding it while it sets. By working your way around the fuselage and wings that way you can adjust for any warpage.

You may want to consider a simple build with the canopy closed as a great test for a new airbrush. I often will build a kit with the emphasis on trying out a different technique or material.

Mostly I recommend that you build for yourself and have fun doing it. When it's fun and comfortable you will find that your builds will get better and better. Good luck :thumbsup:

  3.

Could you please clarify what is the issue with the wingspan (I am guessing too short?). Is the Monogram Gulfhawk wing different, or were you just refering to not wanting to take a chunk out of one to add the the F3F kit wing?

    Cheers,

    Doug

    Hello Doug!

I've restarted the build and the info is here........

 I forgot about the bump effect......I'll use the other post for the remaining work

  4. After being delayed by an Airfix Stirling I'm finally back on my Monogram F3F project.

It takes two kits to make a proper 1/32 Monogram F3F-3 as the kit comes with the F2F wings which were used on the Gulfhawk kit. I just couldn't bring myself to cut up my Gulfhawk so I found an old started F3F kit at the U.S. Nats. The original kit box will find a place on my wall when the build is done.

The kit wings need to be stretched to the proper span by cutting the wings and adding the parts back together to gain 3 more stringer widths on each side.

The resulting wings now have the correct wingspan and I can proceed with the rest of the build.

I also have a Lone Star interior and a Vector engine to play with so now the fun has begun! :D

Thank you to Jennings Heilig for giving me an idea of what to do with an old Monogram SBD that I didn't want to part with.

  7. So what do you do with an old Monogram kit? They're like little puppy dogs that I can't seem to get rid of........

I reached past an Acc Min SBD to pull this out of the closet.
