  1. I know about the wingspan issue and will look for another kit at the Nats to use as a parts donor for the wing stretching. I have a resin 'pit from Mike at Lone Star and I'll be able to finish it off with a set of Yellow Wing decals. I did some preliminary brainstorming and decided I didn't want to sacrifice a Gulfhawk kit just to fix the wings of the USN kit. I expect to return from the Nats with a large dose of enthusiasm

I've been wondering about the rigging of a 1/32 USN bird. I suspect it may have been rigged with stainless steel airfoil sectioned strips rather than round cable so I haven't yet decided what I'll rig with. Any suggestions?

  2. The checklist.......

    - shopping list compiled, copied, reduced to wallet size and laminated

    - reservations and registration confirmed

    - laptop and camera are ready to go

    - dog sitter arranged

    still to go.....

    - clean and prep the Mustang.....today

    - mow the lawn......tomorrow

    - stop the mail and pack the bags.....monday

8 AM tuesday we're OUT THE DOOR :salute:

  3. Okay......I just pulled up the latest version of the shopping list

I'm hoping to see the new Fujimi Ferrari GTO....might be at the HLJ table

The AZ 1/48 Vultee Vengeance may show up at the UMM table

The Planet Models 1/48 BT-13 may follow me home

I see DACO products has a resin correction set for the Academy Spit 14 that might be worth having

I'll probably come home with a Trump 1/48 MiG 3 "late"

If the CA Fokker G.1 shows up I'll take one

.......and I'm needing a pair of the Model King reissues of the AMT Laguna stock car kits.

Maybe I should leave the Mustang in the garage and drive something bigger :D

  4. I was suprised to find it at my doorstep today as when I inquired about it I was offered to pick it up at the convention instead. Oh well.

Markings give you 4 different Coast Guard aircraft all aluminum with chome yellow wings.

Markings are included for the following:

USCG Salem Air Station, circa 1943

USCG Brooklyn Air Station, circa 1943

USCG San Francisco Air Station, circa 1943

USCG Elizabeth City Air Station, circa 1943

It looks like it will be a fun one to put together. The resin bits look awesome, actually better than the ones in the regular Widgeon kit I saw last week at the LHS.

I wish more manufacturers offered such convention only exclusives. See you all in VA!!!

They sent it to you before the convention so you'll get it done in time to enter it! Better get it going.....I'll be looking for it :P

  5. I think this restoration got the colors right for a change........

If you find these colors on your local paint rack you'll do okay.

  6. HURRAY!!!!!!!! B)

now I can finally use all those decals I got in the Zotz sheet. that is definatly a model I will have to get my hands on(again)

    Sean

Zotz and Mike Grant did some nice sheets for the B-17F the last time it was announced for release, then Revell/Monogram changed their mind and stuck those guys with all those sheets :worship: I'm not getting excited until I see them on the shelves <_<

I see Mike still has some available........

  7. I've got a question for you. What kind of resources do you have on this square-wingtipped F-0? I keep thinking about it. I love the way it looks!!!

I want to build one (some day, not right now), thanks to your stunning work.

The more I think about it, though, the more I wonder:

It has a square wing. Was the prototype mated with a 109E wing and radiator system? Or was it the new "F" wing with all the new design changes, but had square tips.

If the "E" wing, would it still have MG/FF in the wings?

I don't have any books on the matter (my library for aircraft is small) and I haven't found much online.

I had the book that is shown in my first pic to use as a reference. It has 5 good pics of the aircraft that I built. Unfortunately it's written in czech and I have no idea what the details are in the text. The book also features line drawings of the 109F through 109K. I was able to see that the early F wings in the ICM kit matched up with the drawings for the F-0. There were no wing guns. The kit wing tips come as separate pieces which made it easy for me to file them down to match the shape of the tips in the drawing.

  8. OK, I'm going to ask a question from the other end of the limit. The 94th Aero sqd. painted their aircraft in a variety of gaudy schemes for the immediate post-WWI period. I'm assuming from the limits imposed that these DO qualify? If so, I might just yank out a SPAD and get in this game!

    like this:

    or

Wow! I'd love to see some of those done!

  9. I've gotten so bogged down with home repairs and job worries that I've lost my modeling spark :)

Maybe this will get me going again. I'm going up to review the "Closet of Adventure" to see what catches my eye.

Perhaps one of the Testors/Hawk '30s racers would do it!

  10. I'd hang on to the Academy kit, its better then the Promodeler P47N, though Neither one of them are as good as the Tamiya kit...

I'm still hoping that Tamiya comes out with a N model (just need wings) or maybe we'll see Trumpeter shrink down their 1/32 scale kits into 1/48, they are doing a 1/32 N in the summer and I already got the Zotos decals for it

I enjoyed my Promodeler build and it looked pretty good with my PYN Cutting Edge decals on it.

Maybe I should scrape the decals off and try to sell them on the 'bay for a hundred bucks................naw.......... :P

  11. Nice choice of subject. I've been wanting to do one of those.

The engineers at Curtiss deleted 2 of the wing guns as part of their weight saving program but the wing remained the same. The pilots in the field weren't happy with the reduction in firepower and had their crews put the guns back in. The only picture I've ever seen of a 4 gun P-40N was taken at the factory.
