  1. OW...

man, i am SO sorry to hear/see that...

the only thing i can think of is lots of putty and some time with the flexi-file sander...

some of the pros should be able to help you along better though...

for future reference, i used blu-tak to hold my BBs in in my radomes... no melting

    hth...

    good luck!

  2. Ive used both the oil and the acrylic washes... both are fantastic... however, for that REAL grungy look (as in an Ops bird) i use pastels and weathering powders that i got from my LHS under the name of bragdonent.com

they are almost self adhesive... which is to say that the more you rub them, the more they stick...

they come in a wide assortment of colors and can be used to 'dull' the paint on one of your cars, or if mixed with a bit of water, can simulate oil streaks on an airplane...

the bottom line is that if it looks good to YOU, then it IS good...

there are no hard and fast rules...

check back here often... i come here SEVERAL times a day and just about always learn something new or aat the very least, gain a new twist on something i already knew...

feel free to PM me anytime...

I'm no pierre or pig, but i think i do OK... the rest of these folks will also be glad to help i'm sure...

they certainly are more friendly than the OTHER forum i go to...

  3. i just finished my 1st attempt at wet sanding with 4000 all the way to 12000 grit on my latest project...

MAN! it looks like a mirror!

is there such a thing as TOO smooth on a primer coat?

i am going to shoot gloss enamels over it once i figure out how/what to thinit with...

    thanks!

  4. Hey Guys! I hope everyone had a great holiday...

i am going to paint a car model and it'll be the first time i have ever shot enamels...

i have primed with tamiya silver leaf rattle can and wet sanded to a mirror finish... soon it will be time for paint... its going to be a bright green metal flake enamel

whats the best thinner, ratio, and pressure for an 'automotive' finish?

    thanks!

heres the body and the engine...

LOTS of scratchbuilt stuff in here

  5. hey folks-

I have purchased some jewelers wire in several guages and want to use them as wiring harnesses and brake lines...

its soft enough to bend with my fingers, but its not copper... i think it may be aluminum or something of the sort...

is there any prep involved before painting? i am going to paint it with enamels

i read somewhere here that white metal should be soaked in vinegar to provide a tooth... is this true and should i do it with my wire as well?

    any suggestions are appreciated!

    see ya at the nats!

    its in MY hometown!!

  6. yeah, you cheater! but that's ok, I'm cheating off of richy and pig (and tilt and.....)

    here's the eduards website...

    http://www.eduard.cz/

I ordered directly from there, good customer service. I went crazy, spent about 100 bucks on different PE sets for the bug... seat, cockpit, weapons, other exterior bits, etc. My wife was ******.

Thanks for the OK to cheat...

some people are WAY offended if you use their techniques... kinda like some guitar playes...

but since i have the OK from you, i'll ask if i can commit them to paper for my reference library...

    your struts are INCREDIBLE!

i hope mine comes out a fraction as well...

  7. what decal scheme are you going with???

just an OOB one, haven't decided yet, but will probably be subdued (sp?) Golden Dragons ones...

for father's day, I got the OIF special edition bug and I'll likely do the color ones on that one.

too cool... i have both of them too...

this way i can watch YOU guys... and pick up tips there...

    i am a cheater!

  8. good to see some progress pix... i have 2 of those beauties in my stash and i'm waiting until i get the nerve to do them...

im building a car right now...

those babies are gonna be tough to say the least and i want to make sure i get 'em right...

mycole... those are OUTSTANDING! please keep us posted!

where did you get the eduard stuff?

i'd like to get some aftermarket stuff too.

I got the eduards stuff directly from them in czech. And they shipped it all out real quick too, took just 2 weeks or so to get from there all the way to Nashville, Tennessee! I was very pleased with their responsiveness.

Thanks a million, guys, for the kind remarks. Does wonders to the confidence level. I'll post more as the progress continues. You guys are great!

    michael

    can you provide contact info?

my LHS sucks about ordering stuff for me... and i havent seen it (eduard) in FSM...

    thanks, mycole

  9. i went to hobby lobby to look around at lunchtime... and i was amazed...

    i saw on the shelves...

Hasegawa - several of ARC most mentioned kits

Accurate Miniatures - ALL kits, i think

Tamiya - LOTS of armor, and several aircraft

    Academy - 1/32 bug, 1/32 (?) CH-46 USMC, 1/32 F-16 block 40/50

    lots of RoG and others...

i was blown away by their selection...

have they started leaning toward 'serious' modellers and away from snap-tites?

it would be goo for the LHS big box store to have some competition... aside from mom-n-pop shops...

has anyone seen this trend where they are?

  11. Out of the realm of aircraft...

I got 2 early model Jeep CJ5 models... to try another genre... before jumping onto the bugs...

    sorry, cant post pix...

the old 'bushwhacker' from (yes, honestly 1977)... that name always cracks me up...

and the daisy duke (catherine bach version) re-issue

gonna make them represent my 1976 1:1 version thats in my driveway

  12. hey all-
