  1. Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll build the Monogram kit, and then do a HB. I also just got the Master PE cannon which really looks good.

Does anyone have the instructions for the Black Box set? I lost mine somehow.

    Thanks again and happy modeling!

  2. Microscale Flat, and satin are what I usually use. You can spray it right out of the bottle, and its acrylic so its safe for all finishes. I'm a fan of Dullcote too, but only when I use Floquil or MM enamels as I know it's safe on those. I had it eat right thru the paint when I used Gunze once.

  3. The Diamond Tip Scriber available at www.micromark.com is what you're looking for. It's made før scribing hair width lines. My workhorse scriber is the UMM SCR-01, but as far as tiny lines goes the diamond tip is the way to go. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

  4. Hi, all. I'm building a Horten IV flying wing glider which is an all resin kit. The wings are to be flush mounted to the fuselage and I'd like to use brass pins to reinforce the join. I'm planning on using two pins per wing. My question is, once I have the pins in the wings, how do I figure out where to drill the corresponding holes so everything matches up? This will be my first all resin build and I was thinking I could just eyeball it, but there's got to be a better way. Also, I'm planning to use CA for this build but would epoxy be better?

    Thanks

  5. I'm wanting to do a 1/48 A-10 build, and have been doing some research online about the various kits out there. From what I've seen opinions are pretty much split down the middle between HB and Monogram being the best. The main gripe I've seen about the Monogram kit is that the speed brakes can only be posed open. I don't know much about A-10s, so is that really that big of a problem? I do prefer engraved panel lines in general, so I'm leaning a little HB at the moment. On the other hand, I have a nice Black Box cockpit set for the Monogram Kit. Anyway, I'd love to see what you guys think about this.

    Thanks and happy modeling.

  6. I've been perusing eBay trying to decide on this. I was wanting to do a BMF with nose art, and there are lots of options for that. I don't remember seeing any transport decals while I was looking. It is a cool idea. What's available for this?

  7. Thanks for the replies. I'm sold on the Hasegawa. I have AMS...don't we all...and all of the detail sets I've seen are for the Hasegawa. Having said that, I'll bet with some tweaking I could coax the sets into the MC kit.

  8. Looking for your thoughts on 1/72 B-24 Kit options. I have a few Minicraft kits in my stash, and they looks fine to me, in the box anyway. I know next to nothing about WWII bombers, so before I get too involved, how does the Hasegawa Kit measure up? I'm not looking to build any specific variant, just something fairly accurate and painless..Yes, I know those two words don't usually go hand in hand in our hobby.

    Thanks

  9. Looking for input on how you guys simulate wood grain. Heres a method I've used with reasonable success: I start with a base coat of skin tone or tan, gloss varnish, and then using a fairly large brush I 'streak on' burnt or raw umber until I get the effect I'm looking for. Usually I'll end with a gloss or satin varnish. As i said, this has worked well for me before but I've only ever used it on small peices like props or tools. I'm wanting to do an entitre cockpit interior this time, and I'm not sure this method will work for such a large area.

I'd appreciate any techniques you'd like to share.

    Thanks, and happy modeling.

  12. Got it. Thanks a lot. I'm tempted to spring for a Hasegawa just so I can use the waist gunners detail set. I wonder if it would be usable in the Minicraft I already have underway.

  13. Thanks for the replies. I think I'll stay with the Minicraft kit and replacement engines and cowls. Maybe I'll consider it a warm up to building the Hasegawa kit later.

    Thanks again.

  14. I've been wanting to model a 72nd scale Liberator for quite a while. The only kit that I own is Minicract's 'Cocky Bobby', which looks, to my eye anyway, to be a decent kit in the box, and dry fitting some of the main assembly like fuselage and wing halves promises a relatively trouble free build. Before I got too hot and heavy into this build, I took a quick look online to find out what folks are saying about this kit. From what I can tell, the choices are Hasegawa or Academy. Minicract doesn't even seem to be worth mentioning in the "best of" threads that I found. One of the definite perks to the Hase kit for me is that it has myriad detail sets available for it which I'm a sucker for. Of course I don't want to get to deep in the weeds and have AMS kick in and prevent me from actually building it.

So, what say you? Should I stay the course or go with a Hasegawa-Academy? I guess a third option would be to to forget the whole thing and build my 1/48 AM 'Ruptured Duck.'

Sorry if this is a dead horse issue, but I mostly model 1/48 Cold War subjects, and know next to nothing about WWII bombers.

    Thanks,and happy modeling!

  15. Hi, all

I've been thinking about starting work on my Italeri V-22, but I don't want to trudge through it only to have Kinetic, GWH etc release a new one when I'm half way through with the Italeri Kit.

I can't find anything online, but have any of you heard any talk of another manufacturer releasing one?mm

    Thanks and happy modeling.
