  1. Looking for all things 1/72 Space Shuttle. This is a two part project one after mission sitting on the runway bird all weathered up, and one sitting on the pad with tank and boosters attached ready to fly. Specifically for aftermarket items, PE, decals, interior, engines, etc. Not going to open up the bay so that's not a problem. I know basically what's been out there (Meteor Prod decals, engines, etc.) but I'm having a time finding it. Site links, personal items welcome, doesn't even have to be sealed. Also helpful links on techniques, like this darn thermal blankets, would be appreciated. Let's make a deal!

  2. Hi Randy,

Really sorry to hear about your loss of inventory due to theft. Can we (us honest modelers) help you out some how by keeping an eye out for the items stolen and not inadvertently buying them from the perps somewhere else on the WEB. No doubt if someone stole that much merchandise they will try to fence it.

Nice website by the way and I like your logo! (speaking as a graphic designer)

    Hey Brian,

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately all of the items were just kits, PE, and resin nothing special or having the ability to track with ID numbers. You know a small box of PE and resin cockpits can be $1000 retail real quick. I'm a big believer in carma and they'll get theirs in the tail one day. Thanks for the comment on the logo, very retro.

  3. Solution to PayPal issue!

For customers that would like to pay with PayPal just send me a list of the items you would like to purchase and your zip code and I'll send you back a total including shipping along with the 20% discount. This way we can avoid all the inconvinence of the site not accepting discounted payments. You can PayPal me directly and the kits will be on their way.

  6. I've been made aware of a PayPal issues.

PayPal through the webstore is only allowing for the total payment to be made. I've tried to adjust it on the back end and PayPal auto caputres funds unlike credfit cards, cards allow you to capture up to the amount authorized. I'm working on a couple of solutions that might work, one - send the balance with the order in cash, two - PayPal the purchaser the balance. I believe that if the balance is sent back to the purchaser via PayPal fees might be involved. I'm going to check and see if these problems can be resolved with minimal headaches and fees.

Thanks for the heads up - that's what I'm looking for.

  7. I just went to the website very nice! Reasonable prices and easy to navigate. However, when I paid through PayPal I was not able to subtract the 20% discount from the total. I probably did something wrong though. Let's give this site a try I always like to help a fellow modeler out!

I've got an e-mail headed your way. Thanks for your time, support, and input. Greatly appreciated.

  10. Iron Works Models Grand Re-Opening - Everything's 20% OFF!

Its been a couple of years since Iron Works Model Web Store has received the attention that it deserves. This neglect transfers to our customers, for this I do apologize. Everyone knows life happens and sometimes the wrong things make it to the back burner. One setback that knocked the wind out of our sails was at least two boxes of models and aftermarket items stolen from a local show to the tune of $700-$800. Its a real shame to think someone within our small circle took advantage of items left unattended for only a minute, but thats all it took. Having a spouse that is less than thrilled with putting savings into plastic and then a large amount is stolen did not support putting more cash into inventory. Building the business only happens one way - putting more money into it. This really caused us to stall for a period of time. Then we decided to either get up or quit, Im hard headed about quitting.

But what I can tell you is this gave me time to realize that this is something I wanted to be serious about. This period also gave me time to get finances in order to start buying inventory on a regular basis. You might receive a box thats been recycled but thats keeping cost down and isnt that what we should do anyway. One of these days Im sure Ill have to make the choice between my regular job and Iron Works, what a choice to make, your dream or the daily grind. Ive had the pleasure of receiving a lot of guidance from another web store owner you all know, to remain nameless, and I owe him a great deal of thanks. With his help in all aspects of the business and just being a friend I know I have a strong chance to build a successful business.

Weve worked hard daily over the last few months to get the web store back in shape. I have to thank my webmaster for the patience to deal with my technical shortcomings. Once again if you see it on the site I have it in stock. Ill be shipping product within the next two days except for Sundays; I still have a full time job. This means that you if you order early in the week you will receive your order inside the week if you use Priority Shipping. Everything behind the scenes on the site has been reworked even though most of it looks the same. Iron Works is being built out of pocket I dont have loans to run the business, you buy and I roll it back in to buy more product. I've recently put a couple thousand dollars in product to start getting a more rounded selection available again; hopefully you can find some of the things you're looking for. I apologize again to all of those that have tried to order items and do to the neglect could not and left disappointed.

For this next week I'll be offering 20% off everything on the site including SHIPPING! That's right 20% off the total order. I'll be adjusting the final capture of funds on credit cards by hand, and forwarding a receipt to you by e-mail. If you choose to pay via PayPal just knock off 20% of the total order and send your funds. If the total for PayPal is $100 subtract 20% and forward $80 total. I spoke to my webmaster about paying him to making all the adjustments to the system so it could be done automatically and in short I might as well not have a sale. Hopefully I can turn over some of the inventory to allow for some of the latest kits and aftermarket parts on the market and start to win your business.

Please visit the site and take a look around, if you find anything that is not working properly PLEASE let me know and it will be fixed ASAP. If there are issues at checkout - tell me, if there are inventory issues - tell me, and so on. There are still ghost in the machine so there's bound to be something that shows in inventory that might be out of stock, if you want it likely I can find it so let me know. The site is updated daily so there is a chance that if someone snags up all the 1/48 Hornets in one order they won't come off the inventory till it's updated. I can't afford one of the fancy web store operating systems yet. Alot of folks would say I've said too much, I like being perfectly honest. One of these days I'll be able to import directly and really get the hobby going again by passing savings onto you.

If there are products that you would like to see send me an e-mail. Check out the gallery there are quite a few new builds there. I hope to give you a solid choice in purchasing items for your favorite hobby. I plan on building the store on customer service and integrity. The biggest complaint I hear out of the community is purchasing products that dont show up for a month, Ive been there with you. I might not have the best prices on the web but you will get the best service. Give me a chance and I know youll be back.

Thank you for your time and patronage,

  13. Thanks guy for the input. I've placed orders with MasterCasters and Mr. Rutman.

I have the Aires R-2800 engine, is the Vector that much of a step above that I abandon the Aires powerplant and spend the money on the other?

Is there anything else anyone can add? I appreciate all the guidance I can get before I show the completed build and then receive new information.

    Thanks,

    Randy

  14. Looking to build a show stopped F4U-1D Corsair and since this is one of the most debated aircraft out there I figured you guys would have something to say. First is the color issues, for instance the cockpit in some early birdcage models was all black and the seat was either black or green zinc, what about later models of the aircraft? How about the salmon colored wheel wells? The inside of the cowling is either yellow or green zinc chromate?

The next is what is a good aircraft that has a balance of documentation but hasn't been overdone like the infamous - P-51D 'Glamourous Glennis' The 'Big Hog' is a good choise but I think it's probably been done a few times. I like the light blue aircraft, great weathering possibilities. Need a idea that can be backed with photos.

Next would be what corrections would be needed to make the Trumpeter model more accurate? Every model has it's inaccuracies, but on this one what are the most glaring? I noticed that the wheels look a bit narrow but for the carrier based aircraft the wheels and tires were thinner and operated at higher pressures than their land based counter parts. I know the cowl flaps have big gaps that need to be backed by some sterene. Also the inside of the cowl flaps are devoid of detail and this would be a plus for a better build.

What are the pitfalls of this build? Are the photo-etched hinges on the flight surfaces weak? If so how is this problem solved? I'm aure I can just glue them in place. I have the Aires cockpit, gun bays, and the Big Ed PE set, what else might be helpful? Are there any resin wheel sets out there?

What about good references for the aircraft? I've checked all the usual sources but need more detail. Are there any good books, web resources, out there?

I appreciate your help and I'm sure this could be a lively topic.

    Thanks,

    Randy

  15. build includes the Aires resin bomb bay set. It's got some pretty good sized resin parts and to scale the bomb bay doors are warped but the biggest problem is the large chuck that makes up the bay itself. The bulkhead that goes down the middle of bay is warped. Usually a small amount of warping is expected in large resin parts and you can get away with some hot water and a fix. This bend is "Hey your bomb bay is bent!" So the question is how do I get it straight? Boiling water? Hot hair dryer? etc. Let me know what worked for you.

    Thanks in advance,

    Randy

  16. Instead of going totally realistic and having everything raised and recessed it should have been engraved panel lines. The surface of the aircraft is pretty smooth. If this thing was real it would need afterburner to taxi for all the drag. Don't plan on building this one, what a shame.

    Randy

  17. First the Trumpeter Tomcat now the Prowler, I'm going to be in the man cave forever. I look so forward to painting four of everything in the cockpit, not! I've built a couple Kinetic kits now and have been impressed by the out of the box product. This will be an excellent addition to the collection of almost finished stuff on the bench.

    Randy

  18. Nice looking build! I've always wanted to get into armor, it just seems I'm stuck with things that suck and blow. I the think the Japanese tanks of WWII are cool because of the wide color schemes they used. They always make me think Gozilla is coming out of the surf soon. Great build and patience with the tracks!
