Little raised but blended to the surface (putty to avoid water infiltration ?) so no panel lines.
I have just under 4,000 photos of the F/A-18 and quite honestly, very few airframes are the same. The formation lights on the nose vary quite a bit from aircraft to aircraft, so there really isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' in this detail. Now, while what Kinetic currently has depicted is a bit over emphasized, it isn't too far off from what I have seen on a few aircraft over the course of 15 years working on and around them.

There's definitely something wrong with the nose shape. Without better photos it's hard to nail down but these are a few quick observations.
3. Pitot probe angled out too much. Should be relatively parallel with the fuselage.
4. RHAW antenna above formation light looks too big and is glued in wrong location.
Cheers,
John
To be fair, these two items are simply due to what appears to be a quick build of the test shot. The RHAW antenna appears too large because of where it is placed incorrectly on the fuselage.
There are a few other issues, but as it's been mentioned before, this is a test shot and I've been informed that changes are being, or have been made.

It is as of Saturday morning. My computer had been down and I just got it back this past Friday evening. I'm working through all of my emails and orders as quickly as I can to get caught up.

I used the seat that came with the Aires F/A-18A cockpit set. I think there's a NACES and SJU-17. I'm not sure which came with the Aires set. But I have a True Details NACES SJU-17 that says for "Late F/A-18s".
The True Details SJU-17 NACES seats are inaccurate and I personally wouldn't recommend them. The Hasegawa F/A-18A/B/C/D kits come with a seat that represents the SJU-5/6, which was used in all F/A-18A/B aircraft, as well as early F/A-18C/D aircraft. This is a breakdown of the BuNo's and which seat(s) were installed during production:
SJU-5/6 ejection seat - All F/A-18A/B
SJU-5/6 ejection seat - F/A-18C/D BuNo 163427 thru 164068
SJU-17 NACES ejection seat - F/A-18C/D BuNo 164196 thru 165532
However, keep in mind that F/A-18A+ and F/A-18A++ aircraft have been, and are being retrofitted with the SJU-17 NACES.
In 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 scales, Aires and Quickboost have the most accurate representations of both seats available.
In 1/32 scale, the Legend SJU-17 comes in second.
In 1/48 and 1/72 scales, the Wolfpack Design SJU-17 seats come in second.
For the SJU-5/6, I would stick with Aires or Quickboost. The seats are the same with Aires coming with PE belts and harnesses, while the Quickboost versions have the belts and harnesses cast with the seat.

Gentlemen,
I am also seriously considering releasing my EA-6B (FL48007) sheet in 1/72 scale. However, before proceeding I would like to know how many of you would actually buy it?
Just as an FYI, this is my own personal standard when I decide to release a new sheet. If individual orders, as well as retailer orders are enough to pay for the print run and printing of instruction sheets, I move forward. With that, I would need to move 75 sheets @ $20.00 each almost immediately to make it worthwhile.
So, pretend you are placing a pre-order by leaving a response and let me know if you would grab a copy. A similar question for my CH-53D/E sheet has been posted in the Helicopter forum.
My KC-130J sheet is going to be released in 72nd scale regardless.......the Attack Squadron resin KC-130J conversion sets pretty much made that decision a no brainer!
Thank you,
Dave

Thanks for the info guys. Am more interested in the aircraft covers/plugs etc versus the colors, but all great info none the less.
Speaking of colors, does anyone have any refs of the AH-1W's that hand the bluish grey color over light sand? Like this:
We did use the standard intake/exhaust covers when the birds were on the deck. They weren't specific to cold weather ops though.....same ones we used back here in the states and in any other theater of operations.

Gentlemen,
I have received a large restock of my F/A-18 vertical tail assembly jig for the Hasegawa series of Legacy Hornets. This jig is a multiple time use item that helps set the kits vertical tails at the correct angle.
The price is $12.00 plus $2.50 for shipping within the US. Shipping outside the US is $6.50
This set is not currently listed on my website. However, you can easily place an order by sending PayPal to flyingleathernecks@att.net for the proper amount. Do NOT send payment as a gift. In the subject title, simply put "F/A-18 Jig"
Thank you,
Dave

Sold items removed, new kits added.
Harold, M113's are still available, sending an email now.

Has anyone heard from Dave with regards to this list of kits he has for sale?
I have tried contacting him numerous times with no result. I have even sent him messages while he is browsing other areas of ARC with no result.
I've purchased from him before and previously have never had any difficulty receiving replies.
Harold
Just sent you an email.....yours were in my SPAM folder.

Out of curiosity, how do the Hasegawa Su-27's compare? I know absolutely nothing about the respective kits, or the actual aircraft. However, the local Hobbytown I work for part time has three of the Hasegawa kits on the shelf and the Revell boxing of the Zvezda kit. I've been tempted for a while and this thread has my interest piqued again!
Thanks,
Dave

Just curious if anyone here knows if the AH-1W ever used any sort of winter covers for cold weather ops? Any help/photos would be most appreciated. Cheers!
We were in Afghanistan during the winter months in 2004/05 and didn't use any covers on our birds while there. I'm not saying something like that has never been used, just saying we didn't for this deployment. This was at Forward Operating Base Orgun-e-Kalan, near the border with Pakistan.

You mean this one? Yeah, I'd buy it if you do it in 1/72. I also think it would be better if it were a mask instead of decals. That would make matching the colors easier.
As for all the brouhaha, build what you like. It's not as provocative as the Pussy Galore F-105 but it's also not the Venus de Milo (just had to throw that in there!).
No, it is not any of those aircraft. I already covered the 53 with the nude figure on the left side of the fuselage on one of my last releases.

I don't know about every one, but one that comes to mind is the 1/48 PBY from Monogram. That topped one of our earliest polls, and the kit came out in the late '80s/early '90s and I was told it did not sell well.
I've always wondered about their claim of that kit not selling well. I've seen several built, they usually sell when listed in various 'for sale' posts, they didn't typically sit on store shelves for very long (in the hobby shops I have been fortunate to visit) and they sold for stupid high prices on Ebay when the kit was out of production for a bit a few years ago. It was also recently re-released by Revell of Germany.....strange for a kit "that didn't sell well".
If the C-130 wasn't a good seller, they'd be sitting on shelves collecting dust.....but they're not. Personally, I think a new tooled kit would do really well.

Thank you John, the Su-24 set is the one I was interested in picking up! Looks like a purchase is in order. Great looking Fencer by the way!

Gentlemen,
Through Facebook, I was able to acquire photos of more CH-53E's from HMH-466 that had images painted into the camouflage schemes. One in particular had large breasts, the torso and open legs of a female painted on the nose. The RWR antenna's served as the nipples of the breasts.
Now, here is the problem......the aircraft never flew a single mission with that artwork on it. According to the Marine that painted it, he felt it was a bit over the top and covered it up when finishing the new paint job. He plans on sending me his notes to confirm the BuNo/Modex, as well as the colors he used (they were house paints provided the Saudi's).
Knowing the aircraft never actually flew with these markings, would you still buy a decal sheet with them included? There would of course be other options on the sheet, including one with the Playboy Bunny painted on the port side of the forward fuselage.
Let me know what you think.
Thank you,
Dave

Gentlemen,
If any of you have used Begemot Decals, can you give some insight on the quality? I've never used, nor seen any of their sheets in person.
Thanks,
Dave

New Years bump.......Decals and a few more kits added
Thanks for looking and I wish you all the best for 2016!

Hello Dave,
Any chance of making this sheet in 1/72?
Yes, later this coming year. The CH-53D/E and KC-130J sheets will also be done in 72nd scale.

Thanks all! I have the Det cord from Dave already! I'm going to order a QB seat for it, maybe the aires nozzles.
cheers,
Mike
Just an FYI, the Aires cockpit for the AV-8B is probably one of their best when it comes to fit. Of the three I have, all are literally drop in with almost none of the usually required sanding needed.

Really ?

I think it's a mix of the misplaced parts and really piss poor construction of the test shot.
