I love the idea of turning scale models to art , and have been messing around with it for some times . This is my 1/48 Academy F-8F Bearcat .
-
-
My favourite method is gluing a piece of stretched spure with diameter slightly larger than the width of the panel line to be filled .
Wait until they dry hard then sand .

Wow, nice and clean build! That is good for office desk display! :thumbsup:/>
let_models :)/>
Thanks anh Let hehe yeah it would be cool to bring them to office only if I have an office with a locked door :)

I had no idea the f-5b served in the war. Which unit are the markings from?
Oh, and beautiful build! I really like how you have it mounted. Looks sharp.
Thanks RKic . Oh yes F-5B did serve the Vietnam war . VNAF used them to train fresh pilots to be combat ready . All VNAF F-5's ( and other VNAF air-crafts ) with black and yellow checker bands were from VNAF 23rd Tactical Wing Bien Hoa AB.

Hello let_models. Thanks a lot.
I'm in first with my 1/72 UH1H Gunship.
Any objections?
No objections! but come on, I am pretty sure you can multitask :P B) :D
Looking forward to see your build .

Thanks guys for interested in my RC-47D build and finally I have started this weekend....been so busy with work and also been trying to get a block of stock material to make the new nose...I decided to get an Italeri 1/72 Dakota Mk.3 kit for this project because it doesn't have raised rivets like the MPC kit for ease of sanding and rescribe panel lines rather than reproduce the rivets....
Here are the 2 halves block shaped in the side view profile...This material has a weird name and I can't never remember how to spell it, it's a stock material for pattern making and CNC dummy cutting, it's kind of something in between wood and plastic, harder than wood but has no grains so it's easy to cut, carve and machine...and softer than plastic for shaping by hand tools...
Initially, I was thinking of just glue the solid nose to the fuselage then blend it in and so on....but now I think I have to heat-form it so the nose would have room for the cockpit floor to extend through....
Until the next time...
Cheers
Flying Tiger
Very impressive start, professional illustration too I think vacuum form is a good idea just a small suggestion: If you are going heat form it how about heat form whole forward section including the wind screen in clear PET plastic hmmm might be a lot of work to create the master. But if you decide plug the whole nose in it should be ok because in 1/72 no one will see the instrument panels control yoke, cockpit floor ... only the seats and the pilots but you would have to look really hard :) . Oh if you are going to heat form it please do not throw away the master. VNAF had a lot of EC-47 to monitor VC radio traffic and we definitely want more to be built :)

Messing around with my newly built VNAF F-5B . A bit of trial and error but I think this is a cool way to present scale models in its natural setting .
The model is the old 1/50 Fujimi F-5B updated with wolfpack resin cockpit and home made decals .
-
Very nice start and very interesting subject .
-
99.9 % of my built are Vietnam war subjects especially VNAF . I like to to join the VNW GB still pondering what to build .
Here is one which I just completed, the 'ancient' 1/50 Fujimi F-5B rescribed and updated with resin Wolfpack cockpits, central fuel tank from Kinetic F-5B . Weapons courtesy of Monogram 1/48 Skyraider , pilots modified from Monogram 1/48 A-37 kit .

For reference, some od the countries involved were:
North Vietnam
South Vietnam
France
United States
Australia
Korea
Thailand
Laos
Cambodia
China
Russia
Malasya
That's all or at least most of the players of the South East Asia War Games.
If you know of any others add them to the list. I don't know of a figure of Jane Fonda counts.
A few were only ground insurgent forces, or suppliers with cargo ships.
There were stories of Russian pilots flying with the North once in a while.
North Korea pilots also served in North Vietnam, flying combats missions and claimed to shoot down US aircrafts . Though, North Vietnamese Communist always denied presence of the foreign troops on its soil during the Vietnam war .
An article published in a Vietnamese newspaper in August 2007 reported that in 2002 the bodies of the 14 North Korean Air Force personnel killed during the Vietnam War had been buried in a cemetery in Vietnam’s Bac Giang Province and had been disinterred and repatriated to North Korea. In a letter to the newspaper to correct several mistakes made in the original article, a retired North Vietnamese major general who had worked with the North Koreans revealed that a total of 87 North Korean Air Force personnel had served in North Vietnam between 1967 and early 1969, during which time the North Koreans had lost 14 men and had claimed to have shot down 26 American aircraft.[2]

Communist China also sent 320000 troops into North Vietnam during Vietnam war.
China played an active and crucial role in supporting their communist ally in the Vietnam war the with more than 320,000 Chinese troops stationed in North Vietnam between 1965 and 1971, peaking in 1967 with around 170,000 Chinese in the DRV. An approximately 1,000 Chinese were killed in North Vietnam in the late 1960s.

"To open and close, press here" (canopy release).
GRM
Thanks I got that in English/French :) . I need the rest in French if possible .

Could any one tell me what these instructions in French were ? I think the top one under canopy rail reads :
POUR OUVRIR ET REFERMER APPUYER ICI
Could not read the one below it or on the engine compartment panels do you know what they were ? Many thanks in advance .

Finally completed today is my 1/72 AH-1 Skyraider in South Vietnamese markings from Tan Son Nhut, ca 11/1970. This is a kit by a brand I have never seen before called "Tsukada models" (kit # WP01) japanese origin. Anyway, the decals are Cutting Edge and overall it went together well. The kit decals were Ok, but not as good as the Cutting Edge. Any errors are mine. I always was curious about RVNAF machines, and wanted to find out more about Skyraiders - so I achieved two things at once (and also buy another AH-1 for a future build). It was fun to do the SEA scheme and find out about the weapons loading and do the research. Enjoy! - Adam
Very nice Skyraider ! You did a superb job .
PS I think Skyraider designation is A1-H not AH-1 (which is Cobra) .

+1 more and I was in 'nam.....and it does rekindle some of the pleasant memories.
Thank you for your service sir !

VNAF T-28 514 FS "Flying Tigers" , somewhere over the coast of South VietNam near Da Nang AB early 1963 .
-
Many thanks for your very kind words .
And sorry for late reply .
I totally agree!!!!These pictures give the illusion that they're photos of the real thing!!!!!!!!
Though I am vey tempted to claim credits but I must admit that most of the credits should go to my trusty Rebel Xti Canon . Most of the time I used full automatic mode .
WOW How did you do the almost removed "U.S. Airforce" on the side of the B-57?Those are some AWESOME builds
The faded out USAF marking on the B-57B was home made decal . To achieve the faded out effect I reduced the opaque of the lettering using a photoedit sofware to make it almost transparent .
Below is one of my more recent work : VNAF Flying Tiger 516 FS . The kit is 1/48 Monogram Skyraider with home made decals.
I apologize if I am posting to wrong forum, but I would like to keep my collection together here in this topic if that's ok.

VNAF O-2A built from the old 1/48 Testors 0-2A the kit I got in my stack was so old that the decal had turned yellow.
Towards the end of the Viet Nam war VNAF had 2 0-2A squadrons . Pictures of VNAF 0-2A are extremely rare . Though I am quite sure that Viet Nam flag would be painted on the vertical tails but it was left blank at this stage due to lack of reference.

These are not a drawing and I am no aviation artist . I am just a normal modeller messing around in digital photography with his finished model . I hope you guys won't mind me posting my works here among many talented aviation artists which I admired very much .
The Skyraider is the old 1/48 Monogram Skyraider though a very old kit but I think with enough care and love can be built into a presentable Skyraider .
-
Thanks guys .
Very good job. My personal favorites were the O-1, A-37, and the Cammoflaged C-47. What did you use for the silver on your natural metal aircraft?
Sorry for late reply . I used mostly aluminum foil for my natural metal aircraft . I reckon nothing is more natural metal than real natural metal :)/>
One of of my recent VNAF builds . This is Hobbyboss 1/72 . The kit is quite ok , except for the windscreen and windows they are just way too thick .

Many thanks for all of your kind comments .
They are very good! Your level of realism for 1/72 is excellent and the photo work is really well done. Would you like to tell us more about your photo and lighting techniques, and the construction of the backgrounds and bases? I used to live in Asia in the late 1960's so this is a subject that interests me greatly.
All of my flightline / runway shots were done outdoor in natural sun light . The background skyscape is real sky. Tarmac is a piece of mdf painted grey with some marking. The revetment is scratch built . The ground equipments are from Hasegawa kit .
I can relate to what you were saying . sometimes when I looked through the camera view finder to take these pics. I often was reminded of my own happy childhood memories back in 'Nam :D
Here is another one . Hope you will enjoy .
