  1. I know that Gunze Paint makes a COCOA BROWN. If I remember corectly, I think you can get away with Testors standard Brown as a Cocoa Brown.

As for a sun yellow, I think you can get away with a standard Testors Yellow or any other yellow.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the Revell Magnum PI instructions they could post?

    Hope this helped

    Cheers

  2. You're more brave than I am when it comes to cutting things open. Way to go!

Regarding the LifeNet decals. I have the med cross finished, just need to do the red stripe which will take some laying out and playing with to get close. Worst case, Tim Bradely can knock it out easily. He has way more experiance than I do and he does some kicken work.

I look forward to following your build.

    Cheers

  3. Anyone familiar with the color scheme of the old LA Airways S-61Ls?

I'm trying to determine if the stripe colors are red and black on silver

or a midnight blue and red stripe on silver?

    TIA

DISREGARD. THE PAINT SCHEME HAD A DARK FOREST GREEN WITH RED STRIPE ON SILVER.

  4. Thanks for info. What dimensions did you use?

Also those birds look very nice.

The current plan is the make a Wake Med 135 bird some day.

    DSC04976.JPG

The scheme looks fairly easy. White/Silver/Red (figure out which one) and black.

I actually eyeballed it per pictures and rough scale dimensions. Nothing exact.

Drop me an email with any more questions you may have. johneagle777@yahoo.com

That way I can send direct and more detailed.

Does the program have any pins available?

    Cheers

  5. Thanks for the info. Is there a kit that includes those pieces? I don't recall seeing it my 135 boxing but I didn't study the contents thoroughly.

    Tank,

You will have to scratch build them yourself. I have done several for the EC-135 and BK-117. They are easy to do with balsa wood.

I did onw with vac-formed parts but find the balsa a lot easier to work with and more forgiving. Below are some of my builds. Hope this helps.

  6. Hey Steve,

I'm sure it boils down to the economy, maintenance/operating costs aswell as what health insurance comapnies are willing to pay to cover flights. I'm sure theirs more to it than that. Med Flight is a non-profit program. They originally were called Grant Life Flight in the 80's. They had a BO-105 and 2 BK-117s. Then they merged with SkyMed of OSU (S-76A & BO-105) to form Med Flight of Ohio. Again, an effort to reduce cost and competition.

The BO-105 was put to rest a couple years ago and is no longer being manufactured. So it will be a matter of time before support dwindles down and parts become scarce. The BO-105 is a good ship but it is an older machine and subject to being replaced with new technology. Hence the EC-135. (Which was the BO-108). Acadian AirMed is slowly replacing their 105's with EC-135s. A pilot I know that flies for them loves the 105 but is impressed with the 135. In general, many programs are dropping the larger helicopter (S-76, 412, Dauphin)for either smaller twins (A109, BK117, EC145, EC135)or going to single engine (Astar, EC-130, 407, A-119) or forming joint ventures or worst case, closing their doors. Times are tough on everyone. Helicopters are very expensive to run.

I remember when SkyCare was called Aeromedics flying a A-109C. They had a great PR department and they were great to chat with!. But when they became SkyCare. The PR changed. My experiance with them..... Not exactly what I would call warm and fuzzy. When they closed their doors. I wasn't really too suprised.

The EC-130 is a cross between the Alouette III (width of fuslage), 350 Astar. (powerplant and mechcanics) and the EC-135 (fenestron & avionics). Kind of a best of both worlds machine. There have been more programs starting to get them. Tulsa Life Flight, Univ. of Iowa Air Care, LifeNet of Georgia/Alabama & MedFlight of Oklahoma to name a few.

Now if someone would just make 1/48th and 1/32nd scale models of the EC-130 we would be in good shape. Hello Revell? Hello Heller? Anyone!? PLEASE!!!

    Hope all is well

    John

  7. Hey Gang,

Here's the latest update on my project. These were the two paint schemes of Med Flight 1. Sadly, the EC-135s will be replaced with by EC-130s.

I have some small details to finish up and the 135's will be finished. Next will be the BK-117.

You can see the progress and other builds on my new, official webapge. www.airmedicalpost.com/builds.html

  8. Any tips on spraying transparent Tamiya colors?I never have but tried brushing, yuk.

I've used it out of the bottle, no thinning. Used low pressure. 20-25 psi

I test sprayed on a flat board to see how it would lay and get a feel of the different distances from the work surface.

I saw good results 6-9 inches from the work area. Loved the results!

Pep: I will consider your thinning method next run to see how she behaves. Thanks for that info.

    Cheers
