given how pacific rims doing at the box office , i think blockbuster fatigue is setting in for the big robot/monster destruction genre..interesting to see if it rebounds next year

wouldn't the internal systems on the 777 warn of a too low/slow approach?

two interesting interviews with SAA commander answering questions about how hes found t-72 in combat:
-
this is a pretty widely studied clip of a t-72 brewing up. its a bit of a strange clip, from the analysis its clear its definitely hit with something (rpg-29 its believed). the crew man was either blown out, or was beside the tank at time of impact

Deffo an ATGM
concensus seems to be Iranian Dragon or its of shoot, the saeghe

this one is pretty scary. anyone know what kind of rocket that is near the end?
I am surprised about the total lack of infantry support
that hit the t-72? probably metis or kornet
* the t-55 is equipped with north korean rangefinder

indeed :D ooh do you have any photos of the revell t-90 prototype?
given some similarity between revell and ACE's t-72, i wonder if the t-90 will follow ACEs parts layout:

there's been some truly amazing combat footage coming out of syria for awhile, heres a bit of a compilation:

Your allegory is not even close........
In the movie, "John Harrison" had some reason for his attacks on Starfleet. There was no justification for the 911 attack. It's offensive to the people who died on 9/11 to suggest otherwise.
ignoring degressing the conversation into justifications etc, the allegory is hardly confined to my own opinion, many a reviewer has noticed it, heck, the film was dedicated to post-9/11 veterans by Abrams with the note in the credits:
"THIS FILM IS DEDICATED TO OUR POST-9/11 VETERANS
WITH GRATITUDE FOR THEIR INSPIRED SERVICE ABROAD
AND CONTINUED LEADERSHIP AT HOME."
one may disagree, but it is something i did note with the tone of the film when watching it.
it diddnt bother me, although my personal preference is that sci-fi is at its best when it reflects on the human condition (which is more time/ageless) rather than a set period in time (thinking of how dated 2010 feels now, when you forget the context in which it was made)
your more than welcome to disagree with me; but I did have an "ahhh" moment when watching the credits, that may prove relevant for those looking to know more about the film in its tone and structure. take it or leave it, watch the film, see what you think :)/>/>

But maybe that's because that's all they're being given?
What was the last hard SF movie released? What was the last well-written, not-action-heavy soft SF movie released?
I hear ya!
the only two 'sci-fi' movies I can remember that were not set on earth were; Prometheus and avatar....... :blink:/>
*oh sunshine which i enjoyed - the horror angle diddnt work for me until i watched the commentary track

My concern going to see the movie this weekend is the risk that JJ has emphasized action and CGI over story. Watching the trailers all I see is explosions and come away with no idea what the movie is actually about. When Star Trek is at its best there's a meaningful and compelling story on which any action is built (and some of the best episodes of TNG and DS9 had little or no action).
I'm nervous. :huh:/>/>

what you see is pretty much what you get, its a.....
911 allegory

I'm just happy i have my TNG collection to remind me of the good times.... :D

hey guys!
after a long break form modeling, I've decided to try my hand at small scale armor again!
I was 'inspired' (if that's the right word) by the amazing ANNA news combat cam footage from Syrian tanks:
I started with Revells T-72M1 + ERA sprue from the T-80BV + some scratch building; talk about being horribly fiddly!
Ill think Ill make this as a SAA tank, but im so spoiled for choice, I might change my mind! ;)/>

hiya!
I've read the Reaper has been tested with JDAMs; have pics surfaced of this configuration yet?

Great for any family member!
In modeler friendly 1/80 Scale!

I'm pretty sure that's a real car stereo in the cockpit ;)

It reminds me of their missile test a few years ago where 3 of 4 missiles actually fired but they photoshopped the fourth.
This one? :D

let me add the

I suspect a twin engine f-35/f-22 would be pretty popular!

Before you knock it, a young Han Solo would be interesting. His Corillian past, how he met up with Chewie, the whole back story will Jabba...quite a bit to work with for a feature film...
oh boy....get ready for more future landfill...
