Wait, you're supposed to remove some of the resin? Maybe that's why I can't get the fuselage to close on some of my kits, and it would also explain the strange looks I get from people when they look over my models.
You learn something new everyday. Thanks ARC!
Seriously, though, I rarely use resin (more out of fear of messing it up, and a severe inability to use CA without making a mess). What would the increased labor costs asscociated with the additional work done to trim the resin parts off their stubs add to the overall price? I'm thinking it'd be a little more than most would be willing to absorb.

I am perfectly willing to concede that the kit does indeed look almost like an F9F.....from a distance.....after you've been drinking....a lot.
Well, at least it's not a Jolly Roger's Tomcat...
-
Very interesting build going on, you're really doing those of us that are on the fence a big service with your comparisons.
I'm leaning toward an Academy 'Cat, since I eventually want one sitting parked with swept wings.
-
I've got this kit inbound, I'm just going OOB. In the overall blue, it'll make a nice break from the greys and olive drab that dominate my cabinet right now.
Now, should I fold the wings? I keep going back and forth on this.

I'd go for a 1/48 B-2!
An M198 155mm howitzer would be greatly appreciated in 1/35 while we're praying to the Lords of Styrene.

Taking a break from ARC topics, I just put the first coat on an LAV-25 that will be getting some attempted chipping of a desert sand top coat and heavy weathering. Also have a M2A2 Sherman that is waiting decals, details and a little weathering.
I'm hoping to start my A-4M tonight.

For my attempts, it usually took the better part of a day. Airbrushing with acrylics gives me a pretty quick drying time between colors, so I'd give it a couple hours before adding the next round of tape.
Good luck!

Here are a few examples of how I've done it;
I've tried two methods. On the A-10, I used stencil/templates that I had made using some of my wife's paper punches. It worked, but was limited.
On the tiltrotor kit-bash, I went with random squares/rectangles of masking tape that were layered over and over until I had painted all the different colors.

Now, witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational helicopter!
Can't wait to see this one in all of its glory. Keep the update photos coming!

Is there a 1/48 kit for the YF-23? That grey MARPAT is like a siren's call to the Whiff part of my brain!
-
No, Fear lives in Chuck Norris of Chuck Norris. I will brook no contrarian views on this topic!

Well, I know Phil (Par429) and I have our "concept demonstrator mock-ups" built, I just need to find that business card the Boeing rep gave me at the Modern Marine Expo last fall...

The B/A-609 idea is interesting... What would they do? Strip one out and set it up as a mini gunship, like a tilt-rotor version of a Little Bird?
Of the three UAVs you mentioned, two are normal rotorcraft... so wouldn't they have the same limitations as a manned helicopter in that they couldn't keep up with the V-22 when it's in conventional flight mode?
It didn't go into a lot of detail really, just mentioned the above as suggested solutions for escort duties. The -609 is mentioned as being a "reconfigured gunship version."
Could UAV escorts work? I suppose, but I don't think the crews of the -22s going in would feel all warm and fuzzy about it.
-
The gazette article also mentions long term solutions for escorting -22s. It mentions the Bell/Agusta 609 and a couple of UAS/UAV like Fire Scout, Dragonfly and Eagle Eye as possible fixes.
I'm looking for an electronic version of the story, but you have to be a member of the Marine Corps Assosciation to get it from their site.
-
I just read an article in the Marine Corps Gazette that mentioned the hellhole mounted minigun as an option for self defense.
Now, what if they put TWO on the V-22? One in each hellhole? Sure you give up your sling load ability, but for putting grunts into an LZ, I gotta think you bring as many guns to the fight as you can, leave the follow-on birds without guns if they have to bring in humvees or other sling loads.

What's the difference?
Less gunfire and criminals in the "Magic Kingdom" (at least since the last time I've been there)
-
No, it must be from inside the DC Beltway.

I have one I picked up a couple years ago at Hobby Lobby. I got it for 1/2 price, too.
Just in the one here near my hometown (visiting for the holidays) and they had a couple on the shelves. Too bad there wasn't a sale on model kits this time around, I was eyeing another Osprey and a Warthog (both the Tamiya and Revellogram boxings were in stock.

Well, that was mind blowing! Amazing work.

Clearly, the pictures you're working from were taken in the spring or something, because there's more green in those pictures, and your diorama, than I saw in the entire country of Afghanistan both times I was over there
The "sand" looks good - I was curious to see how it would turn out. I've worked with model railroad scenery material, but hadn't seen the warhammer stuff before. Looks nice!
Wait. wait. wait...There's GREEN in Afganistan? I forgot what that color even was until we stopped over in Germany on our way back from Bagram.
That said, your revetment is really looking good. Can't wait to see the completed diorama.
-
That's a nice diorama of a current-day turkey. All you need to add is a couple of figures with cutting torches and maybe the big guilliotine that they use to chop up old warbirds at the boneyard and you'd have an award winner on your mantle.
-
Nice. I've got a couple of the 1/48 kits, one in progress, the other waiting for me to decide how I want to build it...
Can't wait to see yours finished.
-
Sweet looking gunship. Very nice work, indeed.

Like the invasion stripes on that one, Neptune48. Sharp. I've only build the Hobbycraft A-10 and I'd tell you to avoid it, unless you just want a cheap kit of the Hawg to play around with. Soft details, raised and recessed lines on the same kit (fuselage halves) non-existent cockpit details...oh, the list goes on and on. I built mine as "What if" USMC bird in MARPAT.

F with a little C thrown in there as well.
Not sure if I'll get one, but it sure is a unique plane, so there's a possibility.
