Guest Shaun
Hi all, Just had one of those moments, when you think is this hobby worth the time and effort?!! I went to remove the masking of a model and the paint has come off in places with the masking tape!! What is the best way to repair the damage? I was using low tack masking tape, are the any better ways or means to mask lines for painting? Shaun
Guest Guest
Masking is a matter of personal taste, just like airbrushes, underwear, type of car, etc etc I will mention a few methods, try them and see which one meets your expectations: 1. Wet Masking: Cut the desired form , dip it in water and place in your model. Dry excess water and airbrush et voilà . 2. Parafilm: Modelmaster sells this stuff. It's got no glue so there's no residue. Adheres thanks to statics. 3.Masking tape: Tamiya's masking tape works like a charm. It obviously has glue but it is very thin. 4.Bare Metal Foil: It's much thinner than many masking mediums but leaves an ugly residue. 5. Maskol: It's like liquid latex. Apply it with an old paintbrush, let it dry and airbrush. Requires a little practice to get it off the model. I'm sure there are many more methods, try them all and see which one you like best. Thomas
Try cutting along the masking tape before removing it. Use a sharp, fresh and shiny blade on your scalpel and go along the edge of the masking tape. The blade cuts the layer of paint and you won´t have trouble removing the masking tape. BUT ALWAYS USE A NEW SHARP BLADE!!! If you are not sure if the blade is new, change it. Thomas
