Question For All You Russian Prop guys

Recommended Posts

I am building the 'ARK Models' Yak-7DI and for the camo-pattern it states "Green and Black." I mostly model US. and German WW11 and as such don't know much about Russian camo patterns. I have found no evidence to confirm if this is accurate or not. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron,

I haven't seen this particular scale model but grenn and black is OK.

In fact it's probably AMT-4 green and AMT-6 black over AMT-7 blue.

Some links you might find interesting on Soviet WW2 aircraft and camo.

Scalemodels.ru wiki with some colors mixes and FS numbers:

http://scalewiki.ru/%D0%B0%D0%BC%D1%82?s[]=%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0

It's in russian with some english but you should understand some.

Soviet warplanes website:

http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php

VVS website:

http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/

JPS modells:

http://www.48specialmodels.com/JPS%20Farbe...n/jpsrusww2.htm

You'll find that some FS numbers are not the same, that's normal since there's some research contreversies exists.

Good luck.

It's the ICM kit. It's got Yak-7 wings and short nosed Yak-9 fuselage.

I have not seen the ARK "Yak-7DI" kit.

is it a re-issue if the ICM kit?

if so it is a combination of Yak-7 and Yak-9

(the Yak-7DI was a single-plane prototype and there was no production of the type)

the Yak-9 (early) had some changes from the Yak-7DI prototype.

do you have a link where I can see this kit?

I suspected as much...

usually what I do with it is make a resin copy of the upper engine cover for the Yak-7b

(2 12.7 mm MG) and replace the cover for the single gun (Yak-7DI and Yak-9) to produce a

late-production Yak-7b with cut-down rear fuselage and improved vision canopy.

with some modifications you and make a Yak-7b ,Yak-7DI or early Yak-9 depending on what you want.

if you have made up your mind on what plane to do I can help with 'corrections'
