Knight of twin tail
On Osprey <<Aircraft of the Aces 21>> page 68, it is said that this P-40K-1's pilot is L R Lewis, he shot down a Kawasaki Ki-48 bomber during a Japanese raid on Hengyang on 12.10.1943, and the next day, Polish Ace Witold Urbanowicz engaged with a group of Japanses fighters returning to their base and shot two of them down. Any one konws this P-40K-1's tail number? Any decal of this plane in 1/48 sacle? Thanks Edited June 14, 2010 by Knight of twin tail
greatgonzo
Urbanowicz flew his 2-kill sortie on Dec. 11th 1943. The only sure thing is the aircraft was P-40 K-1 (according to his Individual Flight Record). All known images of his aircraft are based on author's imagination. Urbanowicz himself has claimed 6 kills over China having only those from 11.12.1943 confirmed. The others took place over enemy teritory and with no witnesses.
Mark Joyce
According to Carl Molesworth in his Osprey book, "23rd Fighter Group, 'Chennault's Sharks'," the plane number is 169. I am unaware of any decals of this P-40. HTH, Mark
