Looking for info on a B-17 "Torchy"

Recommended Posts

I asked about this in real aviation fourm but got reply's so I thought I would try here. Also asked if anyone had a copy of PLANE NAMES & BLOODY NOSES 100th Bomb Group (Heavy) USAAF Thorpe Abbotts, England 1943 -1945 by Ray Bowden.

Looking for pictures of a B-17 with the name Torchy. From what I have found there were 3 in the 349th BS. Codes were XR-H, XR-G and XR-F. Any crew photo's?

I have found some photo's online but still looking for more info.

I have a neighbor that has a Bomber jacket that was given to him with the name Torchy painted on the back and bomb mission markings and I had the name of the man it had belonged to. After checking the B-17 Nose Art Directory one thing lead to another and I found the mans name listed with the 349th BS,100th BG on 100th BG' web site.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,
