  1. Hey-

Here's my V-22 Escort. 1/48 Revell Citation with a 1/72 V-22 wing and nacelles. Scales out very close to the size of the Bell 609. Apologies to those that have seen it before.

    I like it!

My thoughts were more along the lines of a stock V-22 with the weapons and sensors similar to an AC-130 gunship, but I like the sleek look of your escort ship a lot. Great job!

  2. They were more than "discussed".

    Cheers,

Doesn't look bad all things considered. Certainly looks the part. While I was an Army tanker during the mid-90's they were flying real Hind's as OPFOR/Aggressors at the NTC out in lovely Fort Irwin CA (Mojave Desert).

I'll never forget seeing it for the first time, as a tank crewman it is the kind of thing that sends shivers down your spine and it is unmistakable. Of course, the first time I saw it we had just climbed out of the turret after being killed by during the morning "battle".

    Just a mean looking bird.

My what-if thoughts is an AV-22 Osprey spec ops Spooky type gunship. I was thinking a 30mm chain gun and a pair of 20mm gatlings. Not sure if the airframe would be sturdy enough for bigger weapons. I also have the Anigrand AH-56 Cheyenne and Sikorski S-67 kits which I wanted to do in operational markings. I was thinking as well of a naval Apache (it was proposed at one point in the 1980's I think).

  3. Some folks over at Z-5 evidently got their feelings hurt by the bunny's as well; ***? :wave:/>

"5 pages of rank stupidity and Monty Python...typical to forget that it was Eduard that bashed that site and it's members and spend 5 pages bashing Jennings...the only guy there with a functioning memory apparently.

    Pffftttt...." :touche:/>

I told myself I was gonna quit posting in this tailspin of a thread but it's too much fun!

My personal opinion is that there are bigger things in life to get worked up over, some cartoon rabbit created by a model manufacturer is not one of them. But whether on Z-5, here or any other forum people are free to get worked up over whatever they choose, and others are free to laugh at them for getting worked up over something so ridiculous if they so choose.
  4. Ingredients:

3 pounds rabbit meat, cleaned and cut

    into pieces

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/3 cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 pound bacon, diced

    1/2 cup finely chopped shallots

    1 clove garlic, finely chopped

    1 cup dry red wine

    1 cup water

    1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules

    1 tablespoon currant jelly

    10 black peppercorns, crushed

    1 bay leaf

    1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed

    2 teaspoons lemon juice

    3 tablespoons water

    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    1/8 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed

    Directions:

    1. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain on paper towels and set aside. Sprinkle rabbit with salt and coat with 1/3 cup flour, shaking off excess. Brown rabbit in remaining bacon fat. Remove from skillet, along with all but 2 tablespoons of the fat, and reserve.
    2. Saute shallots and garlic in skillet for about 4 minutes, until tender. Stir in wine, 1 cup water and bouillon. Heat to boiling, then stir in jelly, peppercorns, bay leaf, and rosemary. Return rabbit and bacon to skillet. Heat to boiling, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer about 1 1/2 hours or until rabbit is tender.
    3. Remove bay leaf and discard. Place rabbit on a warm platter and keep warm while preparing gravy.
    4. To Make Gravy: Stir lemon juice into skillet with cooking liquid. Combine 3 tablespoons water with 2 tablespoons flour and mix together; stir mixture into skillet over low heat. Finally, stir in thyme. Pour gravy over stew and serve, or pour into a gravy boat and serve on the side.

  5. In Asheboro NC there has been a struggling LHS in the Randolph Mall on highway 64. We have our IPMS meetings there on the last Thursday of the month. The owner is an avid modeler and has been good for the modeling community by giving discounts and ordering whatever anyone asks. To try and stay in business he has had to move out of the Mall to a store across the highway to a shopping center. This guy and his wife are so nice and helpful it would be a shame to lose his business. If you are ever traveling on 64 which is the main road between Charlotte and Raleigh stop in and see what Kit Kringle has to offer. Help save a LHS. Thanks

Does he have a website? Might be easier for a broader forum audience to help save a LHS if they can buy stuff on the web.
  6. Hi guys

im wondering if i want to build a Mobile that you put above aa babys bead what scale would be good? ive never build smaller than 1/48scale.

    would 1/144 be too small?

Personally, I think that 1/144 would be perfect. I think anything bigger will be too big, especially hanging over a baby.
  7. You Mass. People might also want to check out Harry's Hobbies in masnfield, just off I-495. Hal Sr

Harry has decent selection of current kits and supplies. Prices are about the same as Spare Time Shop in Marlborough but he doesn't have the same selection (kits, supplies or books). It's a nice shop, I just don't like the pricing tactics he has started doing. I used drop in there every now and again. He used to have good prices on used kits he acquired buying collections. I used to find some great deals in there and often would drop quite a bit on my visits. Nowadays he charges full retail prices for used kits (even older kits). That just isn't good business in my book, especially when you're getting the collection kits for pennies on the dollar.

He's an hour south of me so I very rarely bother driving down there since he started doing that pricing nonsense on the used kits. I'm fortunate that I have the Spare Time Shop and Hobby Emporium both within 35-40 minutes of the house.

  8. The Army has the Golden Knights at air shows, it also has sent air assets to air shows for display and static including troops at time for simulations of mission profiles. The Marines also have members in the USN Blue Angels including always 1 pilot on the flight demo team. They have support crews for the Blues incl. Fat Albert (Blue's support Herc) and they have in the past sent Harriers, and Cobra attack copters, and even USMC F-18's to air shows.

Yes, I am aware of those things. That is all well and good, but airshows are not the major focus of the Army and Marines recruiting efforts. And yes, those two services will go on with minimal impact to their recruiting even in the wake of airshow cancellations. Heck I'd be willing to bet if you spoke to an AF recruiter he'd tell you that airshows aren't even the major focus of the USAF's recruiting strategy/program.

My point is that the argument that recruiting will suffer due to airshow cuts is just not true.

If I am the DoD and I have to trade some airshow date funding for some new equipment, training budget and a troop pay raise, it is a no-brainer.

  9. And Jason that's all fine and good but what happens 20 years down the line when there are no pilots to fly the jets and no service men to work on them because no one wanted to join the military since it wasnt cool? Air shows do a LOT for recruiting in this country. Especially the on base free to the public air shows.

Look, the simple fact of the matter is that send AF aircraft out to airshows is mostly coming out of the defense budget and simply put there isn't going to be enough money going forward. Like I said, as a former service member the priorities are a little different on how I think that money should be spent, as I mentioned above. The welfare and training of our troops and service members is above PR in my book. Do you actually think that no one will join the AF? I can't speak for others, but I didn't join the Army because I thought it "was cool". Seriously, the airshows aren't even that big of a deal with recruiting at the end of the day. Do you honestly think that nobody is going to want to join the AF just because we go a couple of three seasons with minimal airshows?

The Army and Marines seem to do fine in their recruiting efforts without the aid of airshows, I'm sure the Air Force will survive as well.

  10. The trillions of dollars of debt that has accumulated in the last four years is ... well ... "Unpatriotic" ... :whistle:/>

    -Gregg

To be honest the huge accumulation of debt has been going on a lot longer than just the last four years. We were spending billions a day in Iraq/Afghanistan at the height of operations there for one thing.

That said, it certainly has picked up at a breakneck pace more recently.....

  11. Can't see it getting any worse than things were back in 08-09. Pretty much all metrics have been trending up in the last few years. Personally, I'm not close to saying that life is perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than it was when the last guy left office. Most of the folks I know that were out of work have now found decent jobs, housing values are finally going up, stock market has made up nearly all of it's losses (until it crashes when we go over the cliff). All in all, still have a way to go but things could also be much, much worse.

Folks can't slag the gub'ment for overspending and then cry that their beloved social program, nearby military base, favorite fighter jet, or local airshow gets eliminated.

Not aiming that last comment at Jason's post, just a general observation. Everyone wants to cut federal spending, so long as their pet program is left untouched. This has been true regardless of what party has been in office.

As far as eliminating fly-overs - who cares? Is a 15 second straight and level pass over your stadium really that big of deal?

Not sure if you misread or read into my post. I'm not for spending any money on any "pet" program. I don't have a pet program personally. I'd stop ALL airshows and anything that spends defense dollars without any appreciable return. Everybody here can string me up in effigy, but airshows while great to go to, are a waste of taxpayer dollars in my opinion. Especially when defense dollars are coming at a premium. Spending the money on service member welfare, new equipment, equipment upgrades and training is at the top on my list of defense spending.

If I were in charge, I'd cut stuff across the board. I'd probably start with the billions of dollars in foreign aid being pumped into Pakistan and all these other countries that tell us to pound sand on a daily basis. We've got plenty of our own problems to use the money on.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt all basically look like the next Iran to me. No need to pump money and military equipment into those places.

  12. I'm really surprised to see so many folks surprised about these types of budget cuts.

This is what happens when the economy sux and the government is spending your great grandchildren's generations money.

Better get used to it too, it will get worse before it gets better.
