The high shipping charges have cooled me on buying from LM much these days.  Even their surface shipping of $20 for months of shipping time isn’t much of a deal IMHO.  I’ve got mine preordered from Squadron, and they say they are supposed to arrive after Thanksgiving.

Post pandemic, the shipping charges are so high now, I cant buy anything from HLJ, for example. Lucky model is the same.

Thanks Dave, I have the Italeri kit and already have this as my backup plan as I mentioned in an earlier comment of mine.
Other will for sure be interested in aftermarked, but knowing Tamiya I wouldn't be surprised if this comes in a later boxing too?

Knowing Tamiya, there may be no later boxing. 😄

  3. The US Air Force site states only F-15 can carry GBU-39B Small Diameter Bomb Weapon System.

Has there been any update about which Air Force jets other than F-15 can carry this weapon? I have F-16 in store for future build carrying this weapon but I m not sure if this weapons load will be realistic.

Are there are any US Marines or Navy jets that are cleared to carry this weapon system?

Fantastic work.  I wonder with a war load like that what the range would be even with the centerline tank.  😁

And i wonder if this loadout is even permissible launching from carrier deck! 😀

To me, Phantom looks awesome with this kind of loadout. This is Phantom in Beast Mode (taking the term from F-35). This is why I built it like this.

  5. Tamiya's superb F-4B kit. Fit, quality of packaging, surface detail and overall presentation is all what we have come to expect from Tamiya.

I have used the following accessories

    • Eduard Triple Ejection Rack 648232
    • Eduard Multiple Ejection Rack 648227
    • Hasegawa Weapons Set A for Mk 82 bombs
    • Furball Aero 48-076 decals
    • True Details helmets

The model was painted with Gunze Mr Hobby H315 and H316.

  6. I have Furball Aero's decal sheet available for sale.

I have used one VF-84 marking from this sheet.

I think I can safely say that of the 11 possible markings, one of these 7 can still be built from the remaining sheet:

    • VF-14
    • VF-92 (2 markings in the sheet)
    • VF-114
    • VF-143
    • VF-161
    • VF-154

You can have it for CAD$35.00 including shipping from Canada.

Another consideration is budgets and meeting sales numbers. It would makes sense to release a C/D on a year when maybe they don't have anything else on deck. I’m sure their marketing and a bean counters know a C/D would not it out of the park revenue wise. Anyway, it’s fun trying to be prescient.

I believe many of us will love to have Tamiya F-4C kit. It will definitely sell in huge numbers.

  8. The F-4B kit also has octagonal HUD clear part. This part seems to be suitable for F-4J. On the parts tree for missiles, we see other version of Sparrow as well as a missing quadrant of parts tree which seems to be for other weapons not included in the kit.

The forensics do predict other versions in future. But it all comes down to what Tamiya has planned. We dont know. As I mentioned in previous post, there are parts in other Tamiya kits which are for other versions but we never saw those other versions even after 16/17 years of original release.

  9. Tamiya F-4B kit has an additional tailplane in the kit. It also has a square clear part which looks like front landing light. I m no Phantom expert but those parts point to at least 2 future releases of F-4J and F-4C kits. Its cockpit tub is also molded in a way to accommodate future releases.

I can point to past Tamiya kits in which parts breakdown foretells new kit versions. F-16 upper fuselage pieces, photo etch parts with 2 sets of seatbelts predict F-16D. Their Desert Challenger has all parts for a NATO Challenger kit. In both of these instances, we never saw any future kit despite parts breakdown.

So there is no guarantee the possibility we see in F-4B kit will translate into reality in future.
