    Glue Required
  1. As I suspected the air intake was a nightmare. I think I'll just buy TwoMikes intake covers because I'm sick of it already. The gaps are horrendous, I'd need half a tub of filler to get rid of them. Another problematic thing waas the spine, it's a bit higher than it should be when it meets the tail. A bit of sanding was required to get it right and then some putty. It's not finished yet, I run out of nail polish remover to clean up excess putty. Greg
  2. More progress. Air intake put together and painted, it's major PITA to get rid of all seams. Fuselage glued together, sanded and rescribed some lines which got damaged. Wheel bay also done. Just got carried away with sanding on this one and now it needs some putty to fill what I removed :). All comments welcomed Greg
  3. Hmm, looks like I made a mistake with this seat. Revell instructions are not clear but it looks like it should be leaning back against the wall and not standing upright like I did it. Well too late now to fix it, can't rip it out now. Greg
  4. The pit is completed. But there's one big problem. The seat is too big to fit in there, to get it there along with joystick column I had to do some surgery on the column part. And it looks like it's not possible to close the canopy with this seat in there, it's just too tall, like it is in different scale. I waned to do it with canopy open anyway so that's not a problem. Greg
  5. I started this one about 3 days ago. I wanted to build FW 190 first, but because it's winter and we got a bit of snow here in UK (couple inches where I live) the shop couldn't get it from supplier for about a month. Don't we just love it when the country grinds to a halt after few hours of snow . Anyway I got this Revell kit and Eduard PE set while waiting for FW190. So far done the seat. Greg
  6. thanks everyone, I'll try which method works for me. Greg
  7. I tried dipping few canopies in in at it just doesn't work for me. I cleaned them first in soapy water, let them dry and dipped in this new Future. And always I got runs or streaks. Is there any special way of preparing canopy or the Future before doing it? Because I'm about to give up trying. Greg
  8. Thanks for all comments. mz826: about red - as with all things like that with me it was pure luck. I didn't even think to match this color, I happened to have some Revell Fiery red left and I just happily sprayed that . It turns out it matched decals perfectly. Greg
  9. Great looking plane. I have the same model which I'm going to start soon. Did you have problems with air intake? Seems that's one of the few troublesome bits. Also are the resin wheels much better than kit? And where did you get all those resin bits for it anyway? I couldn't find them anywhere in UK. I went for the full Eduard PE kit, that should add a lot detail to it. Greg
  10. Finished model here http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=221412 Greg
  11. Finished yesterday. Dark grey is wrong, I know that (it really is grey, just looks like black on the photos). Overall it's an easy build, just wing to fuselage joint is troublesome. There's a lot of PE parts in the cockpit, but they don't show up on photos. In progress thread here http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=220381 All C&C welcomed. Greg PS. How do you glue the wire from antenna to the tail? I tried it on my previous model using fishing line and super glue and it just didn't work.
  12. Right, almost finish now. Only waiting for red paint to fix a mess on the nose, attach propeller and then flat coat. Unless I find something more to fix. I managed to put the gun barrel all the way into it's fitting, I had to make another one. That's why there's mess on the nose I used Promodellers dark wash for panel lines (not many of them) and wheel wells. All comments welcomed Greg
  13. Decaling finished, now just small bits have to go on and then varnish. Just one thing I don't like. The paintwork looks like 800 sandpaper for some reason. Probably too high pressure and too far away from model. I wanted to cover it faster and I think that's what caused it. More photos soon. Greg
  14. The problem with dark gray came out too late. According to this page http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/color-table.html It's possible to get AMT-12 by mixing matt black with greyish blue 40%-60%, so that's what I tried, I added much more blue and it looked OK in the pot. And since lighter gray was painted and masked I didn't notice that the dark gray was so dark (does it make sense?). It still is gray but very dark. I looked at two reference pages for this color and there's quite a lot of difference in the shade of gray they give for both AMT11 and 12. http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/
  15. Painting done. Just couple questions: No.1: Is it better to glue canopy before painting or after? I did it after, had some troublr with fitting it properly and it shows. No.2: When spraying gloss varnish over flat paint should the surface be smooth like a glass? or is what you see on the potos OK for decaling? If it should be smoother how should I do it? I was spraying microscale gloss at 15psi from 4-5 inches. Greg Ps: I'm aware that colors are off, I'm using Revell paints and Eduard gives Mr. Color numbers and I couldn't find conversion for those. So colors are approximate <_<
