  1. But it's 2 kits, a Spitfire Stein and just about all the extra PE and Brassin you can muster for these kits...

For both of the kits. As shown in the instructions, it also include early C-, late C-, and E-type wings. IMO, it's a good deal when you consider 1/48 Spitfire plastic is going for $19-$26 in a quick Sprue Bros scan...

  2. IIRC, an article on Future claimed adding Simple Green will produce a very high-gloss finish. OK, some quick googling confirms many mentions of this; you'll need to research this to find the proportions. :coolio:

As repeatedly noted, surface prep is always key to any finish...

Having written that, I've never been happy with my Future results, but that's something I need to figure out...

  3. Thanks for sharing that! This article has some more of the story.

It does a soul good to see special attention paid to moments like this. I especially like it when it's done before the general public, to get them thinking about the sacrifices made by our military members and their families.

For all who are serving and who have served, I am immensely grateful and thankful.

  4. if you cannot find these perhaps you could try :

    Obscureco Aircraft

    OBS48003 2 X 13'1" Hamilton Propellers

The OP wants 1/72 props, which Obscureco doesn't list. But, I just found those 1/48 props, and I'll get them instead of the Ultracast.

In any event, both Ultracast and Obscureco confirm the Hellcat props will work.

  5. I use "scotch" tape since you can see through it a bit to help figure out where the canopy frames are. Then the tape is cut along those frame with a brand new blade.

I use this for surfaces that are flat or simple curves. As noted, it's easy to see where to cut. But, it doesn't stretch.

I use Tamiya on compound curves because it will stretch nicely. In this case, I lay it along the edge carefully along the frame and only cut the ends.

As noted, don't forget to burnish the tape edges.

Oh, and welcome to our crazy part of the universe. Have fun!

  6. ... I'm quite ready to agree that it's the best IX in 1/48, even though I haven't yet opened the box that finally arrived at my house a few days ago.

It arrived days ago and you still haven't opened the box?

    Days! Really?

  7. I just received the military version (90033) kit this week. Very fine detail, very delicate parts. No flash nor mis-registration apparent. The main rotor is comprised of 12 parts; the tail, 5. Markings are for a single aircraft, Air Force School in Dęblin, Nov 16, 2006.
