  1. I'd like to see all of them, see if any neurons get fired.
  2. Over in the F-111E armaments thread, I mentioned building props for filming, which reminded me of something. If you are a film maker, and are ever thinking of representing ANY kind of bomb for something that is supposed to be serious. For goodness sakes, research the weapons before signing off on something. I can't tell you how much seeing "THE BOMB" in Steven King's The Stand pulled me right out of that story. Having worked on "THE BOMB" (actual nukes, not the prop), this has been bugging me for decades. Thank you
  3. In an earlier edit of the post, I said silver, I revised it to read "bare metal", but you'd replied by then. I don't specifically remember the "silver lacquer" finish that mrvark mentioned, but I remember them as being really glossy. Again, the photo I have in that post appears accurate to my memory. Oh, and I'll stick with what I said about special weapon's locations. I only remember loading a maximum of two per aircraft during our alerts, on STA 4/5, along with the drop tanks. If we ever loaded 4 (or more) to a plane, I don't remember it. About the B57 bombs, in the event anybody wants
  4. The loading shapes were bare metal with a brown mahogany colored ?plastic? bit at the front. I suspect the weapons in the photos are the same, but just appear black due to the picture quality. The color was not solid, like you'd get with paint. To me, the actual brown bit looked like sawdust embedded in a dark brown plastic epoxy resin, with some of the "sawdust" particles being lighter in color than others. Kind of like linoleum. I have no idea why it was that way, and haven't been able to locate resources that explain the logic of it. If I were to be building a large scale model of one
  5. I just found another error in my post (I was active duty from 1988-1990), I corrected that. I was RIFd before really getting a chance to do much on other aircraft. I had to load an A-10 once (bombs, not bullets), and was able to check out a SAAB Viggen that was on TDY. Also at UH, I got the opportunity to eyeball a F-4 that was around for battle damage training, and check out the F-100 Super Saber (56-3000) that was going to go on static display. While at Lowry, I was able to crawl inside a static display B-52 a time or two.
  6. Thanks for the corrections... I'll edit them into my post. My info is based on memories from 26-28 years ago (1988-1990). When it comes to the hyphens I never knew that there wasn't one. I'm certain that I never saw a B43 while I was there. That said, I was there for a narrow time frame, so it's possible that UH had them at some time. While I was there, we had training shapes for the B57s and B61s in the barn. BDU-38s were rarely loaded, but not in the barn.
  7. During Exercises (NATO TAC Evals, Salty Nations) we might have loaded them in the manner you are looking to display. They NEVER left the ground loaded like that though (BDU-38s yeah, maybe a few, but not a real nuke). Can't remember about the AIM-9, it's been too long. However, I just don't remember loading up all that many ever while I was there. So, I'd say no.
  8. I'd be happy to add one to my build pile.
  9. Ok, I'm currently in China, so I don't have access to my models while they're sitting home in the US. One thing I do have here though is access to my Flickr account. I took several pics of the SR-71 at McMinnville Oregon's Evergreen Aviation Museum, and one thing I noted was the corrugations in the kit were all wrong. I don't have a way of measuring them now, but if I guessed, I'd say they were nearly 1/16 inch deep each on the model. Scaling that up, I'd be guessing that they'd be about 2-3" deep. When I saw the real thing, I noticed that they were maybe 1/4" deep... A heck of a lot sha
  10. I'm a vet, and I'd love to try to get in touch with builders that I may have served with... Any chance we could get a forum just for Vets to connect with friends they may have lost contact with?
  11. Ok... I've found at least one other here who survived the Heyford bone... So, where's the rest of you? Me, currently I'm in China. Yeah... The People's Republic of China. In a small (population 7 million) city on the east coast (Yantai), working here as an English teacher at a small private language school. Got my degree in Applied Linguistics, and yes, I can speak Mandarin (but not nearly as much as I'd like to). Then (July 1988 to Sept 1990)... I was an A1C who got RIFd back in 1990. I was in the 77th AMU as a 3 man on SSgt Chris Judd's and later SSgt Michael Winn's weapons load c
  12. Thanks! I looked at them, and all I can remember about them was the tiger stripes on the top of the tails. I certainly don't remember seeing "Bad Medicine" or "On Guard". I honestly think that there was a phase when nose art on them had been removed.
  13. Ok, so the yellow primer seen in so many of the photos of the KUB isn't so pretty. The Su-33UB though is one sexy beast though. Looks to me like a cross between the F-111 (cockpit), The B-1 (canards, nosecone) and the F-15 (everything else) getting the best features of each.
  14. Thanks for the links... Now if I can only figure out how to aquire enough to buy them (as well as convert my RMB into USD) to get them shipped to me here. I'm currently teaching English (part time) in the PRC. Of course, if anyone has scans that'd help too!
  15. If anybody has any good references on the F-111E's of UH, I'd like to see it. I worked the pigs of the 77th TFS and the 42nd ECS, and I don't remember seeing nose art on any of them during my time there (July 1988 - Sept 1990) I've found references to 68-020 having "The Chief" painted on it back in 1989, but personally don't remember seeing it. Specifically, I'm looking for images of the artwork, and the dates it was painted that way. For more of my memories of them, you can check out post #29 in the F-111E armament options thread. Thanks!
  16. Hadn't had a chance to thoroughly examine that site... THANKS!!!
  17. Ok... I'm late to this party... I was a weapons loadcrew member for the F-111Es and EF-111As at RAF Upper Heyford from July 1988 to Sept 1990. I was in the 77th AMU, supporting the 77th TFS, and the 42nd ECS primarily. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE EVER use a MER or a TER on this aircraft if you are modeling one from that time frame. To my knowledge the BRU has been the only ejector rack ever fitted to the F-111. I only saw MERs and TERs on other TDY aircraft, and during Tech School (Lowry AFB, CO)(again on other aircraft in the hanger we trained in). The only times I can imagine that F-111s woul
  18. Looking to pick up the Kinetic 1/48th scale Su-33 Flanker D. Anyone got a scan they can post? Xie Xie K'Tesh
  19. Ok, it's been a while since I was last active on ARC. I got busy with school, moving to China, work, and model rocketry... I'm back again (with a slightly new handle (KTesh instead of the old K'Tesh)(couldn't get logged into my old handle). I can't seem to find any archive for instructions for kits (by subject or manufacturer). Seems like this would be a good resource for ARC if there isn't one already. Thanks in advance! K'Tesh
  20. I don't have the resources to check, but in the event that a Su-33UB isn't going to be available any time in the next few years, would a Su-34's cockpit/canopy be good to cannibalize a 33UB if I felt up to the challenge? Or would it be just a waste of money due to the differences?
  21. Corrected the designation in my OP. The Su-33UB is acceptable as an alternative to the Su-27KUB... I can't begin to tell you all how much I like the lines of that aircraft. Oh... and Berkut... No matter how much you push the envelope, it will always be stationery.
  22. K'Tesh here... Yeah, I know, I've lost my "'". Computer wouldn't let me log in, so I had to go another route to get this posted. I've just discovered the Kinetic Su-33 Flanker D in 1/48th, and I'm loving what I'm seeing. Problem is... I used to work the F-111E, and side by side seating has managed to get ahold of my aviation preferences... The SU-27KUB has got to be one of the sexiest planes out there. I'd rather not hack a beautiful kit into useless junk if I can help it. So, does anyone know if Kinetic (or anybody else) got a 1/48th scale KUB in its sights? If not, perhaps I would b
