  1. The nose shape does appear to be off, but I think I'll pick one up if i can find it for a reasonable price.

BTW, I have found the best reference for the Firefox is Cinefex # 10, a special-effects oriented magazine. It has tons of excellent pics of both the miniatues and full-size mock-ups. it can be found insome comics stores, sci-fi conventions and occasionally on ebay.

  2. I wonder if the script writer got the caliber (7.62mm) and the cartridge length (25mm) mixed up and no one caught it.

    muswp1,

In all likelehood, the best explanation. It happens.

But there are such things as factcheckers (love to get that job, but my wife says I'd be ruthless). Actually, the i-net's probably killed this job.

Btw, in watching the NCIS repeats on USA, does anyone have a confirm or otherwise that a certain manner of sniper ammunition is called a "Kate"?

  3. Just watched last night's NCIS ("A Man Walks Into A Bar...") and they talk about a murder weapon-a 25 mm Tokarev TT-30. I made sure-watched the scene a few times until my wife told me to stop.

Closest I can come to is the Tokarev TT-33 7.62 semi-auto. A 25-mm pistol? Gotta get me one of those!! Probably standard issue with all those Mig-28 pilots.

Funny, usually this program gets these things more or less right.

  4. I always send a thank-you card or e-mail, along with some more info about myself and why I'm suited for the job. This was highly suggested in a seminar that my former employer paid for (pretty good of them, actually) after they laid me off. I think it does work in that it gets you noticed more than if you didn't do this.

On the other hand, I'm STILL looking for good, solid full time work after being laid off two years ago.

  5. Very sad news indeed. When I was stationed at Fort Lewis, I would visit this shop a few times a year. The first time I walked in, I think my jaw dropped so much it hit the floor...... ;)

The staff really was always friendly and helpful, and their stock had to be seen to be believed.

    They will be missed :crying::salute:

  6. Just saw on the local news (WFSB, Hartford, CT) that part of a building containing a local hobby shop has collapsed, fortunatly no-one was hurt.

Craftec Hobbies was one of five or six businesses in the building, which was long, low and narrow, sort of like a small strip mall. It appears from the pictures available that the business right next to the shop took the brunt of the damage, but I don't think it'll be opening back up soon, if at all.

Pics are available on WFSB and WVIT websites.

I will try to set up a link later, gotta go dig out my parent's driveway.

  7. I've had this problem as well, you can extend the life a little bit by sealing the tube in a Zip-Loc bag and pressing out the extra air.

Great filler, btw. I use tape along the edges of the seam and remove the excess with a an old towel and a small dab of iso-alchohol about 5 minutes after application, it eliminates a lot of sanding.

  8. RIP Charles. Thanks for your hard work. I also live in CT and have driven by the Kaman location a number of times. Once the weather gets nicer again I think I"ll drive by.

Drive around the back road (if you find the location, it's just inside the Windsor-Bloomfield line, 90 degrees off the main road) and you'll see a lot of older Seasprites and Huskys (minus their rotor blades) wrapped in plastic. It's also very possible you'll see one of their current helos.

  9. Charles Kaman passed on yesterday at age 91. He was founder of Kaman Aerospace, famous for, among other things, the Kaman SeaSprite helicopter series. The firm is also well noted for being the founder of Fidelco, which trains and provides guide dogs

I grew up on Bloomfield, CT, in the 60s and 70s, SeaSprites were a very common sight (and sound) in the area, much as the civilan-marketed co-axial helo is currently familiar with residents of the town and surrounding areas. He and his firm are very admired in the area as a consistently gainful employer, even in hard times.

    :D

  10. We recieved about 2 feet here in central CT .Fortunatly, my condominium association has enlisted the services of an excellent snow-removal contractor. But even they were not able to clear it all; as a result, I gave up my parking space to the couple next door with a 4-month year old baby boy (my good deed for the year!). Hey, better they have it near their door, I can walk the 50 feet to my car.

On the modeling side, Wednesday I got to deal with the awful fit of my ICM MiG-29 9-13

  11. I have only recently become aware of this kit in the past two weeks. It raises an almost infinate possibility of "what-if" colour schemes.

I have found several on-line reviews, but for the most part they cover the basic fit, shape and proprotions (all adequate). I am wondering how the cockpit and landing gear details face up .I know it is a short-run kit, but is there any input from ARCers on these aspects of the kit?

Thanks for looking and any input.

  12. Aircraft-the Yakovlev Yak-38. Doesn't stop me from making kits of both the regular and trainer versions ( IMHO the Yak-38U is flat-out the ugliest a/c ever flown).

Still waiting for the Hobby Boss 1/48 kit, though, got $80 stashed and taped behind my nightstand drawer....ooopppssss............

  13. Star Trek-Live! is coming to my town. It promises to be a great interactive experience for fans of the show. BUT-I have Googled up and down and can't find reviews, only schedules.

Has anyone seen this, and is it worth the time? Tickets are less than $20 so that's not a problem.
