mildenhall rules Posted February 1, 2009 Share Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) Hi, Well I was suckerd into buying the Heller f-4D??, thinking 'great, finally a short nosed phantom', no such luck. Its the old f-4e moulds that nearly every manufacturer has sold. Now I come to think of it I think I have made this mistake before. Anyway, as a distraction from my C-17 I thought I would stick it together anyway and do euro1 f-4e, I scanned the decals from a 1/72 hasegawa kit (cheers Tony) and got stuck in. I didn't add any detail to the cockpit, which I knd of regret now as I would normaly at least add belts, but as this was a quick build (2 days), I thought I wouldn't bother. Half way through building it I saw a few pics of the Wild Weasel phantom (my favorite version) and couldnt resist doing that instead! The only real change I did was add an extension to the cannon fairing and sand 2 random missiles down to half way through their cord, trim them to fit the tail as a radar lumpy bit. I am sure I should have done more, but its near enough for me. I got some spare missiles from the left overs box, a shrike (think thats what it is) from a recently finished finished wild weasel intruder, some longer more pointy bang sticks from an F-16 box (sorry, I don't really know much about missiles), some nice sidewinders from a dragon F14 and a jamming pod I had lying around. The paints were all revell aqua colours, the nearest greens and greys I could either find or mix. Hope you like it, back to the c-17 now! the decals from the missiles are off a revell F-14 kit. sorry if you were trying to read this whilst I have been blithering about trying to get the pics on! ooops just noticed, not taken the last of the wash off! (that big missile on the right wing) oh,thats what it is! It looked pretty similar to what was on the wing of a 1/48 review phantom. I got it from the intruder (or prowler) kit.
