Spitfire88
I have the original boxing of the Tamiya P-51b 61042 and there are vents moulded on the bottom part of the nose on both sides of the fuselage. I just picked up the new P-51b kit 92216 "Blue Nose" and in the instructions it indicates to fill these vents. Were these vents applicable only to certain P-51b aircraft or did Tamiya miss a step in the original boxing indicating to fill these vents in with putty?

I could post loads of pictures of P-51B/C/D's which utilized blanked off plates over the carburetor air filters. I have read that this was sometimes done during cold weather, but some of the pictures are clearly not cold temps. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info. Wish I had a better picture of your aircraft than this. HTH. Tom
tourist
Tom is right, it was not uncommon to see blanked off carb air filters on Mustangs. Also, the first P-51B production block (P-51B-1) simply didn't have them.
