Phil marchese
Before 1903 there were few gasoline car manfactures in the USA the production profits to support a racing program and 1915/16 is usually the agreed transition point out of the brass era of antique cars. Pre-1903 is dominated by steam, electric and gas buggies. Olds , Winton & Packard were the significant gasoline producers with Autocar and Locomobile entering the transition. Thus 1903 starts the period of auto racing in what Americans would call cars verse powered buggies. Using Evergreen plastic stock and the Revell G&G cars along with the Hudson Little OldTimers and Airfix I am starting a scratch conversion series of this racing era. It is both fun and educational. The first Indy 500 was 1911. The conversion to brick was inpart because the use or wood board tracks often threw lare splinters injurious to man, tires and cars.
