Hello all:

Yesterday I visited the Olomouc Air Museum in the eastern part of the Czech Republic for their season opening, here's a few pictures of their collection:

Avia Av-14FG which was lying in pieces outside the museum hangar at about the same time last year.

Here's a few general views around the museum's hangar which is, as you can see, in a poor state:

There is hope to be able to restore the hangar at some point in the future as it is of historical significance itself having been used by the Soviet air force during the Cold War. However, it is also a reminder to us all of how difficult running museums can be financially and bureaucratically.

The staff at the Olomouc Air Museum are a skilled and passionate group who are also involved in restoring aircraft for collections beyond their own and are certainly deserving of support and recognition.

If you'd like to know more about this museum and their activities, here is a link to their official web site. It's in Czech but has a multilingual translator function:

And here's one to their Facebook page. It's all in Czech but has a good number of pictures of museum activities and exhibits:

Some of those look like they are made out of steel instead of aluminum, especially the one wiht the bulb nose. What was that one?

That's an Avia Av-14FG. It was a modified version of the Av-14, the Czech built version of the Ilyushin Il-14 transport, for aerial photography purposes.
