In the link provided above, the 4th from last picture shows XMU-470/A guns all pointing out "windows". The last picture shows the aft most XMU-470/A is pointing out the door. The DC-3 / C-47 was not manufactured with a window one frame forward of the door. This space was just the same as the spaces where there WAS a window, so cutting one in was not a problem.
