HGE
I'm still working on a group of Spitfires . I'm about ready to paint 3 of them. One of the three is a " pointed wing" MKVIII. MY question is, could I paint this Spit PRU Blue and be acurate or does it need to be a Photo Recon Spit to be accurate in PRU blue? Thanks, Henry
Graham T
A bit "rusty" ion WW2 Spits but I'm pretty certain that no MkVIII's operated in the PRU scheme. All would have been standard temperate day fighter scheme (Europe), desert scheme (Med/Desert) or the tropical dk Green/Dk Earth/MSG scheme. Apart from a very small number of Mk XI's that were assigned the high altitude interceptor role briefly, PRU was only worn as an over all scheme by PR Spits. Someone may say different though! agboak
There are a few more exotic schemes for Mk.VIIIs: look in Ventura's US Spitfire booklets. However, overall PRU Blue is not one of them. You could do it as a Mk.VII, with minor changes, which were PRU Blue but with Medium Sea Grey in plan - uppersurfaces of wings and top of fuselage. If you are insistent on PRU Blue, it wouldn't be a major job to convert it to a PR IX, X or XI - basically the camera positions, the original ailerons and tailwheels, and the PR canopy. Plus perhaps the larger oil tank under the nose.
